Any idea about what the “hami pero” (はみぺろ) in the description is supposed to mean?
 
It doesn’t seem to have a direct translation (so there’s most likely a pun involved indeed), but from what I found, it seems related both with the verb はみ出す (hamidasu, meaning “to stick out”) and the onomatopoeia associated to the act of licking (either in the noun ぺろり (perori) or the adverb ぺろぺろ (peropero) — in addition, ぺろりと (perorito) is another adverbal form which apparently means “while sticking out one’s tongue”).

Yeah I’m pretty sure something was lost in the translation here. There’s some Japanese pun on “wings” and “tongue” or something I’m not getting.

Is there a pun that just isn’t translating or is the joke just culture clash? When Ocellus is involved, I can’t help but feel anything could be embarrassing for her.

My guess is that since the elytra (the shell covering the wings for insects like beetles and the like) is there to serve as a protective layer over the wings. Having part of the wings stick out from under them would imply that either their wings are too long or their elytra too small. Either way, it gives the impression of helplessness and vulnerability.
 
I wouldn’t know. I’ve got butterfly wings, for some reason.
