The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

I made a .gif once
@mtobob
Any .gif that includes camera movement like this tends to get far, far bigger than any given static scene.

Most .gif compression I’ve seen works on the principle of clearing out any area that doesn’t change from frame to frame with transparency in some form or fashion. This creates large blocks that compress more easily. When a camera changes via pan, zoom, or rotate, essentially EVERYTHING changes, which is just that much more that needs to be kept and can’t be cleared out.

I’ve found that .gifs like this usually turn out just a little better if you focus on reducing their colors instead, making sure to apply a global color table and perhaps employing an ordered dither.

It also helps to choose a lower resolution if you need to reduce file size, but that usually is a case-by-case thing. If there’s next to no movement in a scene (like in >>224840), you can get away with big resolutions. I’ve seen you, in fact, get away with things like >>185474.

(It also occurs to me that you’re probably being sarcastic with the whole ‘how is this 4MB’. But this information could be helpful to bucky, too, since he’s trying to get into the whole .gif shtick.)
