I think Equestria Girls was just the MLP production team trying to cash-in with Monster High and Ever After High (which were quite popular at the time MLP FIM premiered in the early 2010’s) but I think Pony Life is going to try and cash-in with some trend/fad that’s going to be popular with girls sometime later in the 2020’s
