I always thought PEgasi and Gryphons lay eggs.

Pegasi have parents, they don’t get spawned de novo from humping clouds. When very young, they are raised by their parents. However, past a certain age they are raised in military collectives, and don’t really have any close family relationship with their birth family any more, just like in Sparta. Spartan children were raised by their parents to age 7, then entered the Agoge for 12 years of training and conditioning. I’m sure Pegaparents love their foals, and hope they grow up to be successful, but that love is shown in giving them up to their Flight School where they will learn to develop into everything they can be. They don’t really keep in contact after that.

He comes back in S4 when the Monsters of the Week show up and requests that Rainbow Dash gets inside a robot that’s revealed to have her mom’s soul in it. All while Rainbow Dad plots to turn everyone into tang so that he can be reunited with his wife.

Uh, when was this? I can’t think of any time RD implied that her parents were dead.

Well, I guess rainbow-coloured hair is a dominant allele after all.

RD implied her parent(s) were already dead by the time she was old enough to worry about horrible monsters. This representation of a supportive father would imply he would of been there at the young flyers competition, or someone who would comfort her fears as she got older.
 
Unless Rainbow dad raised him by himself, both her parents are long since dead.
