Sphinxie doesn’t want to be fed though, she wants to hunt. She gets off on the risk/reward aspect of it, the thought of getting to use someone as a toy if she wins or having to submit to the whims of a partner a fraction of her size if she loses. It’s why she won’t just up and get freaky with someone against their will without giving them a fair chance with a riddle, and why she honors her rules when she loses: it’s boring and simply too easy for her. She needs that thrill, that genuine chance of landing on double-zero, because it gets her off like nobody’s business :D

I could just see Somnambula arriving to find out why there hasn’t been any Sphinx-related problems for months—only to find Trixie and a bunch of lamia using magic and coils to keep Sphinx completely unable to talk.

I figure she must be a really smart person in canon to do what she does. She has intimate knowledge of running her own business, pyrotechnics, and showmanship, was able to perform advanced-level magic with a power boost in a series that has firmly and repeatedly established magic is potential power + knowledge, and doing what she does with stage magic and trickery would take a lot more knowledge, talent, and skill than doing it with genuine magic. Like what takes more knowledge and talent, a magician making someone appear to levitate on-stage or a strong person just lifting them into the air? XD
