no! last thing we need is another live action remake of a good movie, the lion king is already getting bad reviews
That’s coolies. :)
Jungle book 2 and Peter Pan 2 was still direct to video movies made by Disney toons they just received limited theatrical runs.
as I recall I got free tickets for jungle book 2 because a kid at my school had a parents that work at the Disney store
I think Jungle Book 2 & Peter Pan 2 were theatrical, but frankly those weren’t much better then the video tape fair.
Besides those only one I can remember was “The Rescuers Down Under” & “Fantasia 2000,” both of which were actually pretty good.
In fact, Walt himself was supposedly against sequels to his animated features, but did want to add new things to Fantasia every year, but sadly that classic failed, but at least has become a classic.

That actually would’ve been kinda cool. I did enjoy the Aladdin & Hercules crossover episode of the Hercules series. (I’m still surprised James Woods reprised his role, and apparently it had many guest stars.)
Only good things about that Inspector Gadget 2 was, I think French Stewert (Third Rock from the Sun) actually made a better Gadget then Ferris Bueler, and the movie was a bit more true to the original ‘80s cartoon. (Though, still not as good, of course.)
Though, the Capeman episodes of the TV show were made back in the ‘80s long before Disney aquired D.I.C. so that wasn’t their doing.
Capeman is basically considered another “Scrappy Doo,” or “Great Gazoo” (in other words a rather hated add-on character) but I wasn’t bothered by him, (or Scrappy) as a kid.
I remember with Tarzan and Jane the episode featured in that aired on TV normally.
I’m not too sure but I think Disney has for the most part abandoned in the direct-to-video thing they shut down Disneytoons sometime last year and both Wreck-It Ralph 2 and frozen 2 being the first sequel to actually be made by Disney’s main animation company in years
@northern haste
I remember reading somewhere that if the Atlantis show had gotten off the ground, then reportedly there would have been a crossover with Gargoyles during its run. That would have been awesome.
Return of Jafar acting as an opening pilot makes sense why the original opening for the TV Series featured clips from the film. After it premiered in syndication, all the clips were removed, and the opening was quite different from the Disney Channel version, which was the case for most of the shows of theirs that first aired on the channel in the spring before entering syndication the following fall, like with Darkwing Duck, Talespin, Bonkers, and Goof Troop.
Plus, several other Disney movies also had TV shows that were turned into compilation movies too. Some were like Atlantis and based on failed ones (Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella) and others actually were from shows that had been made (Hercules, Tarzan).
Heck, I remember Disney even made one for Inspector Gadget since it was around the time they had partnered with DiC, and it was made to support that lousy Matthew Broderick movie. Sadly, they were all episodes from the second season so they all focused on that Capeman character.
So yeah, that was a trend Disney was really into at the time during the late 90s/early 00s.
which return of Jafar that was at least one full story
with Milo’s return on the other hand that was 3 stories
Huh, interesting. Similarly, the 3-part “pilot” episodes of the “Aladdin” TV series were repackaged as a video “sequel” too, “The Return of Jafar.” (Hence why it introduced Abis Maul, Jason Alaxander’s memorable character.)
Might not be a “great” sequel, but it was a pretty good intro for the TV series.
@Beau Skunky
they actually had plans on reopening and retheming Submarine Voyage but because the box office wasn’t great that never happened and then Finding Nemo came out. there was also plans for a TV series but when it got cancelled the finished episodes was released as Milo’s return which looking back at it now it’s very obvious
Yeah, I enjoyed the latter, as well.
Yeah, it actually was pretty good. Very underrated. Sadly, alot of Disney’s late 2D animations are.
For that matter, I like Tarzan, Treasure Planet, Emporer’s New Groove, and even “Home on the Range” wasn’t that bad.
“No more Chinese laundry.”
Damn right.
