Description

Me drawing next gen ponies and backgrounds? In 2018? It’s more likely than you think. I’ve been trying to design a new set of next gen characters and write stuff for them (i suck at writing sorry), also the background is just traced over a background from the show :L

I wanted to release all of my next gen references all at the same time, so in the mean time here’s some context:

Ariane is Rarity and Applejack’s only daughter. She’s deaf and her special talent is magic. She has a cochlear implant but she only wears it around her parents, and for her magic lessons.
Vesper is the adopted son of Princess Luna. He spent most of his life sleeping during the day so his only friend is Ariane, thanks to Twilight’s help. Vesper (and Ariane) also do not know about Nightmare Moon.

Ariane woke up to her candle lighting up. She looked around and no pony stood in her room. She thought maybe it was her parents waking her up, but as she moved her curtains she saw it was the middle of night. As she lifted her curtains, a note caught her eye. She got closer and read it, ‘Wanna hang out?’ She looked down onto the ground, where Vesper stood, looking up her with large, expectant eyes.

Ariane opened the window, taking the note with her magic. Using a pencil she wrote on the paper, ‘Why in all of Equestria do you want to “hang out” at night time?’ As Vesper read the note, Ariane levitated herself down the ground, and closed her window very slowly as to not wake her parents.

‘Thought we could hang out cause the night is really pretty’

Ariane looked at Vesper, who was looking back at her. She snorted and pushed his face away. She quickly scribbled, ‘Where are we going?’ Vesper smiled, taking the paper from Ariane. ‘Close your eyes.’ Ariane complied, closing her eyes and sticking her hoof out.

When they stopped, Vesper tapped her shoulder to signal that she could look. Ariane opened her eyes and looked around. It was just the Castle of the Two Sisters. Ariane had seen it many times before. Vesper could tell Ariane was unimpressed; she wasn’t very good at hiding what she was thinking. Vesper took the note pad and wrote on it, ‘I know it doesn’t seem like much but look up.’ Ariane looked up. The stars were shining bright, lighting up what would otherwise be a dark, gloomy, and decaying castle.

Vesper began to write, ‘My mother always loved spending time with me at night time and she always said that the sky was always the most beautiful far away from any towns. Not many ponies get to appreciate her night but she doesn’t seem to mind as much as I do… I wish more ponies got to see how beautiful is…’

Ariane watched Vesper as he wrote about the night and his mother. He looked so beautiful in the night sky, writing about something he was passionate about; and he was so caring towards his mother. Ariane thought about writing to him, that he looked beautiful and how lovely and caring and sweet he was, but… she decided against it. Maybe at a later date.
