I believe that. The episode didn’t so much end as much as it just stops. In most other shows it would obviously be a sequel hook, but FIM’s biggest problem is that it very rarely references past episode except for tiny throw away gags.
 
You know, come to think of it, “Sonic Rainboom” ended the exact same way.

But tarantuala that’s so overdone. Everyone was calling Rainbow Dash giving up on the Wonderbolts. And she almost did too. But thankfully, Spitfire came around to seeing things in Dash’s view.
 
Though still, our ending is pretty incomplete.

Rainbow finds out that sticking to your guns sometimes means you have to give up on your hero and consequently, your dreams. Would have been a good lesson for kids.
