Cider Rush is the result of an on-again off-again relationship between Rainbow Dash and Big Macintosh.
In my AU Dash comes to slowly admire her good friend AJ’s big brother after years of watching the big, strong, muscular stallion around the farm. Hauling, lifting, bucking, it wasn’t surprising that the overly-competitive Rainbow Dash would take notice of him. For the longest time she kept her interest under the rug, especially after he started dating Sugar Belle. It wasn’t until after the long-distance relationship failed (Mac always had the idea that Sugar Belle would have joined him at Sweet Apple Acres, but Sugar Belle had no intentions of leaving the home she had helped both create and re-create after Starlight’s reformation) that Dash confronted Big Mac with the idea.
They never officially became an item, their time together was mostly physical - be it competing, working together around the farm, or more private activities. Dash liked the fact that Big Mac was quiet and caring, and she could go on bragging about her exploits for hours without ever being interrupted. Big Mac on the other hand, just welcomed the distraction from his true feelings - he never quite got over Sugar Belle and while he admired Rainbow Dash and enjoyed his time with her, never truly fell in love. Over the years their relationship would end, start up again, and continue the cycle, as they both realized they were better friends than partners but still unwilling to give up the companionship they had found in the other. Eventually Rainbow Dash would fall pregnant and give birth to a handsome Earth Pony colt known as Cider Rush.

| Cider Rush, or “Cid” would grow up on the farm, always idolizing his mother, but eventually growing to resent both of his parents. His mother had saved the world over time and time again, was a wonderbolt (eventually retiring as she got older) and known all around Equestria. His Father on the other hand never had much of a legacy. Mac took over the Farm after Granny Smith’s passing, and Cid was always there.. helping with the chores, bucking the apples - knowing that had he been born with a pair of wings that he would have been up in Cloudsdale instead, an amazing flier and the child of the legendary Rainbow Dash. He’d have been a legend, not a farm hand. |
| Cid was a bit late getting his cutie mark, even as far as Apple Family standards go. He expected this was because he truly belonged in the sky, with his mother. It wasn’t until he came across a batch of apples that had fermented, and made his first jug of Hard Cider, that he realized his true calling. Dash had come for a visit and both she and Big Mac found a young Cider Rush out back in the hay fields, drunk out of his mind on hard cider, with a fancy Lightning Bolt in a Bottle slapped across his flank. Cid didn’t become an alcoholic, and rarely drank that much again, but he did go on to perfect his patented cider and create many other delicious drinks - including a Zap Apple Martini. |
| Cid would eventually grow up and open his own pub, where he and his grandfather Bow Hothoof would spend a good amount of their time together. |
