Tyrannosaurids may have been covered with fluff. But if you want giant, scaly, prehistoric beasts like the old times, you will always have carnosaurs and abelisaurs.

None of those are Tyrannosaurus. Feathers might work for the raptors, but Tyrannosaurus wouldn’t be the ultimate dinosaur in every kid’s toy collection if the toys were covered in feathers.

Yes, because one artist is just better than the other.

If you saw that thing in a dark alley, you wouldn’t be laughing. Imagine a giant flightless eagle with teeth and a long tail. Or a giant bipedal feathered grizzly bear/lizard hybrid.

@WatermelonRat
Birds evolved from theropod dinosaurs. So the likelihood of other theropods being feathered is pretty good.

Well, the question to ask is if it’s the feathers that make it look stupid or how the artist drew them?

@WatermelonRat, it’s a Yutyrannus, not a T.rex. It was a close relative though, discovered this year. Rex likely had some feathers as well.
