I’d say that projectile weaponry is extremely basic in Equestria. Given the commonality of unicorns who can cast shield spells, the early guns were obselete almost before they were made, and only large pieces like cannons are regularly used. They might have some use and even improvements in non-pony lands, but only until their wielders see a unicorn blocking shot after shot after shot.
