your current filter.He’s probably just dropping down a dozen feet or so to prevent them from catching him before gliding down to the surface, so they basically gave him a way to escape the camp without much effort.
I was thinking more along the lines of suicide, but I suppose that could work too.

Although he could easily fly himself out of trouble, the fact that he’s intentionally making himself fall off the building (and that he makes no attempt to fly) still implies a potential suicide.
