King Sombra
Age: Older than 300 but younger than Chrysalis

Backstory:
Sombra was born in the Crystal Empire, his father an outlaw umbra pony and his mother a crystal pony. Because of his hybrid blood, Sombra never fit in with either ponies or the umbrum. He was teased on both fronts, called a traitor and a freak by the Empire ponies and considered a weakling by the umbra ponies. Long story short, he had a job at the palace and eventually got so filled with anger and rage that he tried to kill the empress.

Needless to say, he was exiled to the frozen wasteland. He joined rogue bands of umbrum mercenaries and thieves, learning to fight and kill to get what he wanted. He slowly began taking control of the umbra ponies, who were just a scattered kingdom at the time, roaming the mountains aimlessly. He organized the species under his dictating command, taking pieces of territory from the outskirts of the Empire, but was eventually chased away by the Empire’s legions.

He took his umbra ponies down to the wastelands of the south, past Equestria, to meet with Chrysalis. She had heard of his attempts to take over the Crystal Empire and offered him a joint leadership with her when she attacked Equestria. He accepted eagerly, and the two joined their forces to march on Equestria within the year.

They swept through the country with incredible speed, demolishing villages, pillaging cities, and finally taking Canterlot, the heart of the nation. They killed the King and Queen and chased the princesses north to the Empire.

Now, Sombra is mostly in charge of the northern half of Equestria, while Chrysalis has more control in the South. They both understand the customs/ problems of those regions better and agreed it was smarter to rule that way.

The two are NOT romantically interested at all, but do consider themselves friends(of course they’ll never admit it). They enjoy their joint leadership, and even offer to give each other breaks from time to time.

Sombra is much younger than his older counterpart, and tends to like the bash and smash diplomacy style (aka no diplomacy). Chrysalis understands the need to cooperate (when it benefits her) every so often, and has thus allowed the nobles who have sworn allegiance to her and Sombra to remain in control of provinces and such.

On the battlefield, Sombra can be found in the thick of battle, fighting 15 opponents at once with his bare hands. He doesn’t go beserker, but he is a bit of an adrenaline junkie, loving the heat and rush of the battle. Chrysalis, rather like Celestia, likes to stay to the side of the fight, casting spells at the enemy from a place where she can focus without worrying about arrows and such.

Sorry for the long description. I had a lot I wanted to get down with theses guys and I didn’t want to spread it out.

ARTISTIC NOTES:

• I made Sombra look MUCH younger than I ever have before. This is because he really isn’t that much older than Luna and Celestia, and I wanted to emphasize it.

-It also looks like he’s short, but he’s actually taller than Celestia. Standing next to skyscraper Chrysalis just makes him appear short.

-Chrysalis is SUPER tall and skinny. She’s not old, but she isn’t young either, more the evil-adult type.

-She’s super skinny, hence all her bones sticking out like that.
