Description
After season 5’s horrible last 5mins, this was a very refreshing sight. It’s nice to see the writers learn from their mistakes and improve. :)

I think it more shifted to talking about pre-post reformation, but the discussion being off-topic and better fit for the forums is still very true, thanks.
Nothing you’ve said in this thread since you necroed this 3 year old image has been about this image.
Go to the forums if you want to bitch about Starlight’s redemption or the series finale.
@UserAccount
I’m not a troll, I’ve just made comedy images that people took too seriously. But I’m right about this.
I learn that this guy is a bit of a troll who was almost moonbanned, so it may be a good idea to save your sanity and just ignore him, since he’s not going to listen to anyone.
But he was only doing that because he was so butthurt that nobody wanted him to come to the school. It offended him that Twilight thought Starlight was more qualified, which is just pathetic.
As I recall, according to those who wrote the episode (or at least were officially involved enough to say so), Discord didn’t want to punish Starlight or make her “pay” so much as he wanted to prove she was not a good choice to be headmare (and he did so by making her angry enough to attack him, that was what he wanted and considered it a victory when she did).
Edited
I think he stayed in Equestria because he wanted to “fix” it and didn’t care about what anypony thought of his changes. Even being trapped in stone for 1000 years probably didn’t bother him too much, so he kept on doing his thing.
@Meanlucario
The old Discord wouldn’t have cared that Starlight didn’t want him to take over. He would’ve just done whatever he wanted regardless. The new Discord wants to make her pay for not liking him, which is so much more pathetic than if he just ignored her.
Anyway, what you’re describing is more like sadism than maliciousness. The word malice usually implies spitefulness, resentment or anger. The old Discord had none of those things at all, he just liked being a funny comedian.
I think the sounds of screaming is there to tell us that he was trying to cause them enough pain to find it enjoyable, and you can be malicious and be trying to survive, they are exclusive. And controlling ponies like puppets can easily mean that he wishes to see them suffer.
That’s due to Pinkie only seeing part of it. And if he wasn’t malicious about things, he would have just sent her someplace where she couldn’t interfere with thing instead of mentally break her and made her hate his world. Chaos can be malices, boi.
And no, that isn’t how he is like now. He messed with the Student Six and Starlight because he felt excluded and wanted to troll them in a much less harmful way than before his reformation. Old Discord would just turn them into mindless slaves that would do what he told them to do so they would be the ones excluded instead of him.
Again, you’re exaggerating and ignoring the positive ways he has grown over time.
He was certainly indifferent to many things before he learned to care about others, it was something of a consequence of being powerful enough to do pretty much whatever he wanted. All the same, there certainly were times he exalted in causing others misery. If freedom was all he cared about then he could have simply left Equestria, gone to another part of the world or even another dimension and had his fun there. He stayed in Equestria because his ego had been hurt by being stopped before, and he wanted revenge.
They had to stop him before, because he was doing the same thing as in Return of Harmony. We even saw a flashback of it in Season 4. Before he was indifferent to the suffering of others, so long as they didn’t try to stop him. He controlled the ponies like puppets, because it was funny to him.
Check out his original interactions with Pinkie. She loves a lot of what he does and he’s happy that somepony appreciates it. He doesn’t want to hurt her, because he’s not malicious by nature, just chaotic. He has to retaliate when someone tries to stop him, though.
Nowadays he’s like “My heart hurts, because nobody loves me! I know, I’ll take my hurt out on others to make myself feel better! That’ll work!!!” That’s not who he was before.
Ever wonder why Celestia and Luna had to stop him before, or why there’s a stain-glass window of him torturing ponies with their screams playing in the background of his premier? He was much more malice than than he is now.
This just isn’t true at all. He stopped the ponies that were trying to defeat him, that’s it. That’s not malicious, it’s self-preservation. He didn’t overhear someone say that they dislike what he’s doing, cry about feeling unaccepted, then freak out like a four year old on them. In fact, he didn’t care what anyone thought of him at all, he only cared that the Mane Six were trying to turn him back to stone. Nowadays he’s like someone on 4Chan who’s deep down sad that their parents never loved them, but hide it by posting gore and other stuff like that as an “ironic joke.”
@Ryodraco
I don’t see that as malicious. If that’s malice to you, the Mane Six were malicious to every villain they’ve ever defeated.
Edited
He brainwashed five of the the Mane Six to be malicious opposites, and celebrated when he succeeded in breaking Twilight. Yes it was done to ensure the Elements of Harmony couldn’t be used against him, but it was also pretty clearly malicious given the pleasure he took in it. I mean just look at some of his dialog.
“You have been kind long enough, time to be cruel!”

What are you smoking? He show more malice in his two-parter than his current state. He’s a much less malice troll now than he was before his reformation. Do you even watch the new seasons or just hear what happens and assumes what ever will make you hate it the most?
He only effected them to be funny, though. He was never malicious like he is now. They turned him from a funny comedy character similar to those that leave shitpost jokes online into a pathetic troll like the ones that gets mad at people disagreeing with them, so they dox and SWAT them, then act like doing that was a joke in the same way as posting a comedy shitpost.
Hence my point about how seriously you take a scene like that, you’re assuming he would actually have let the students get hurt. It seems a lot more likely he would have poofed the bug bear away at the last moment (though of course, since we know the whole point was to enrage Starlight, he likely knew she was going to intervene anyway).
Also, Discord in his first appearance did more than just mess with the environment. He directly effected quite a few ponies too (like Big Mac).

No, because in his original apperance, the harm he caused wasn’t the point. He was just amused by dancing buffalos and chocolate rain and simply didn’t care what negative effect it had on anypony. Even though that was bad, it’s far worse to actively try to murder innocent children just because he felt left out. Seriously, what kind of lesson is that?! Discord is a far worse person now.
Discord was described as mischievous from the very start, so him messing with others for his own amusement is nothing new. At least now he often does it in a harmless way and/or with the intent to teach a good lesson. To say he’s worse now ignores how before he cared about no one but himself and would wreck a nation on a whim, and now at least he recognizes some value with bonds with others and over the course of the series has continued to expand those bonds. Trouble is that his own chaotic nature means he’s not necessarily going to be a conventional friend, and the ponies (and Spike) to their credit seem to have over time learned how to handle this in a productive manner. There have been setbacks (a lot depending on just how seriously you interpret the “danger” he has put some characters in), but overall its been a steady improvement.

I’ve never seen Dragon Ball, but I don’t have a problem with a character being “like Discord” in a loose sense. I have a problem with how they changed him and how they keep insisting that he’s “redeemed” when he’s way worse than he was before.
My god, you got to hate characters like Vegeta.
Starlight is a perfect character now and her personality change actually works. If her redemption were like Discord’s, she’d be brainwashing people just to see them suffer, even though that’s more evil than she was before.
I’m right about everything and you know it.
You’re wrong on many levels, and it hurts a bit thinking about them.
Okay? They needed to actually set her up as a threatening villain, not solely dedicate the two-parter to redeeming her.
Compare it to every other redeemed villains, that gets redeemed in four fucking seconds. (Except for Discord, but Keep Calm and Flutter On, as well as every single subsequent Discord episode was so goddamn horrendous and varying degrees of insulting to Return of Harmony that it doesn’t even count. That wasn’t Discord that got reformed, it was some cringe-inducing fanon version of him that ruined his original personality.)
