Six-time destroyers of Equestria don’t get invited to Pinkie’s secret prank meetings until they attain sufficient levels of love and tolerance.

That, or she just didn’t want to join in because she’s an antisocial NEET who never leaves the Princess Magic Box.

The issue isn’t just that they failed to consider the CMC’s feelings, but that afterward they acted like the kids hadn’t said anything about it when they’d been pointing out the problem the whole time.

28 Pranks Later didn’t mess up quite as badly as Mare-Do-Well with its moral, since Rainbow’s friends did confront her about the problem before resorting to manipulation, but it was still pretty hypocritical of them since their prank was worse than any of Rainbow’s. Besides that, the attempt they made at negotiating barely made an ounce of sense and would have been difficult for Rainbow Dash to obey without quitting pranks entirely.

I can’t actually think of anything wrong with Saddle Row Review, the change in style really worked in the show’s favor and most of the episode was hilarious. Stranger Than Fanfiction was also pretty impressive. It would have been easy to get a moral about criticism of the show wrong, but they handled it perfectly. I also quite liked Hearth’s Warming Tail.

Truth be told, there aren’t a lot of episodes I have a strong dislike for in the show. The ones we already talked about, of course, Dragon Quest for setting up an interesting premise and then totally fumbling it, Hooffields and Mccolts for being more or less a copy of Avatar’s worst episode, and the second half of the season 5 finale for giving Starlight a really weak redemption. Otherwise the show ranges from average to amazing, with most episodes being overall solid with a few flaws.

I assume they just got too caught up to ask them themselves and the race to consider the CMC’s feelings. Happens to many people sometimes.

I actually felt “28 Pranks Later” handled the lesson better then MMDW, and was a better episode. (Honestly, I didn’t really hate that ep’ either.) But yeah, I felt it did ignore that previous ep’ that established Pinkie didn’t support pranking Shy.

I felt “Stranger then Fanfiction” was quite funny, and a nice mix of satire & homage to fandoms. (Notice, I said “fandoms”)
“Saddle Row Review” was a stronger ep’ too, and reminded me of a S1 style ep’ where all the characters got some focus. Got to say I felt Season 6 had some pretty solid eps, so can’t say I feel that disapointed.

Honestly, the only time I’ve come close to hating an episode was with “Scare Master.” Something about the way Fluttershy was flanderized, (to the point where CANDY scared her) the way the episode ended, or something bugged me.

One could plausibly argue that Rarity and Rainbow are vain enough and AJ is stubborn enough to not take the hint, but asking the CMC afterwards why they didn’t say anything? Come on- even on their worst days, they aren’t that stupid, are they? And then there’s 28 Pranks Later making the mistakes of Mysterious Mare Do Well all over again, plus making the main six look humorless and being inconsistent with Griffon The Brush Off.

I swear I do still love this show. It’s just hard to remember that sometimes. I really hope the upcoming episode is as good as it sounds.

She’s still not good at friendship business, only gets involved with others when Twilight forces her. Which is the exact point of the future episode about her.

Hey, at least you aren’t arguing that it’s OOC for Rainbow Dash to mock Fluttershy when she’s crying and trembling in fear; now that’s stupid.

Ember and Torch changed their perspectives a tiny bit too quickly, I think, but Spike himself (and Garble, who I previously couldn’t stand) were spot-on. The new lore on dragons didn’t hurt either.

There have been some great episodes like Saddle Row Review, On Your Marks, and No Second Prances, but I wish there were fewer bad or forgettable ones. The last two in particular have had some of the worst main six writing I’ve ever seen. I really have no idea why, though.

Regardless, I’m still actually enjoying the season. We did get a li’l more subtle world-building with seeing a li’l more Canterlot, those “India”-like ponies, Daring Do, and such. The episode dealing with the aftermath of the CMC getting their marks was a nice bit of continuity too, so we are getting a li’l continuity.

As for Glimmer, I’m guessing they don’t wanna overuse her, due to drama shows get over adding new characters. Though, I liked how we saw hints of her old personality in the “No Second Prances” ep’. (Like the Big Mac scene.) Showing she’s still trying to do better now.

Yeah, but season 1 had virtually no established history to match up with. From season 4 onward, the show has been built a lot more around continuity, and I don’t think it’s coincidence that S6’s weaker episodes have mostly been the ones that are disconnected from prior events or that follow up on them in an underwhelming way. The status quo hasn’t been kind to this season.

To be honest, I felt Season 1 kinda had that “random episodes” style too, and very little continuity. Only continuity it had was Zecora’s brief second appearance, and the mention of the upcoming Grand Galloping Gala in 2 episodes prior to the season finale.

The main issue I’ve seen with Starlight so far is that any episode which doesn’t directly involve her for its main plot is written as though she doesn’t exist. This wasn’t too annoying with Discord since it was established that the main six have no idea where he lives and he mostly hangs out with Fluttershy, but Starlight is sharing a home with Twilight, so it’s pretty ridiculous to see so little of her.

Season 6 has been suffering a bit from this in general. As opposed to S5, which was built around continuity, developing supporting characters, and making progress from what had been established in earlier seasons, this season seems to just throw out a bunch of random main six stories without regard for how they might connect or whether the subject they’re going over has been addressed already. It works out sometimes, but it also leads to characters seemingly forgetting what they learned in the last two seasons- or in the case of the latest episode, forgetting what they already knew in season 1.

True. Then again, it’s not exactly a world-class challenge to be more sane than Arkham. After all, it’s home to the most psychotic supervillains in the comic book industry.
