And yet she fell to the same trickery when she naively thought having the elements themselves would solve everything. When that failed, Discord had won and Twilight broke.
 
My concern here is that people so eager to denounce this duped Twilight because it stands against the ideal of a flawless Twilight Sparkle who has never existed in the franchise.

However, remember how Twilight acted around Discord. She was always prepared to expect a trick out of him, with good reason. Even when she fell into his trap, she stayed cautious and aware that he might be manipulating her.
 
She’s nothing like that here.

Good point. I didn’t like the High School thing that much, but the Big MacIntosh run was very enjoyable.
 
But… I get a feeling that the Mane Six and Twilight especially have a tendency to freeze in open-mouthed surprise and confusion whenever anything serious happens in the comics lately.
 
Perhaps that’s part of the problem: The way she’s drawn makes them look… dumb. I don’t mean badly drawn, but that they look like they’re lacking their usual smarts. That’s how I felt with the cow criminals, that minotaur criminal, and now here.

Yeah. Which is why I said overall I think she is. Also refer to my first comment further back where I said the Cook/Price team have given us some gems before but for the most part I have gotten to going into their comics expecting crap. If it’s surprisingly decent or even good then yay, but I am well past the point where I expect it or even dare to hope for it.

The Twilight I’ve witnessed is intelligent but naive and she’s made many mistakes and blunders. She’s worked herself into fervors and failed to see the simple solution many times.
 
I get the sense that people are angry that it was Twilight and not some guard who was duped. That somehow being tricked makes her less admirable because we–the detached audience–are saying “Don’t open that door!” But I think it makes sense in the context of the story. The ponies can be naive and all of them expressed confidence that Chrysalis couldn’t escape.

I disagree VERY much. She wrote the Big Mac stories. She wrote Shining Armor and Cadance in High School. She wrote the Rarity and Luna micro comics.
 
Those were all good comics, and the Big Mac arc is widely regarded as one of the most enjoyable main comics in the entire run.
 
Yes, she sucks with serious stories, but her Slice of Life comedy stories are spot on.

Maybe she’s not a terrible writer, but she is overall a terrible writer for MLP I think. Her brand of “humor” and style doesn’t suit the show very well, and there are a lot of people who can and do write pony better and who would deserve to be paid for it. However the sad truth is a lot of times it is who you know not what you know in professional circles, and Katie Cook apparently has been in the right place at the right time throughout her life.

Wait, if I get paid for writing, do I get the right to say it? Or do I point out that going with the “well, you aren’t X, so hah!” is the worse counter ever because that has nothing to do with what is being said all to do with you trying to claim that you need to be something to be able to make a point?
 
If you can dismiss the fact the development towards this was bad adn that twilight acted extremely stupidly, feel free. But saying that because he’s not a writer that somehow dismisses his point? That just means you can’t deal with “argument” and have nothing but personal attacks left.
