It’s because the rainbow themed character being gay has some implications that wouldn’t gel well with her being a tomboy, it also kind of implies that straight characters don’t get to use rainbows ever. & having her with Applejack in the show would send the unfortunate accidental message that all tomboys are gay. That wouldn’t be your intent, but that’s the message that would be sent to a lot of people in that situation.

Not sure how that’s a stereotype. People don’t think that real gay people have rainbow colored hair and the symbol of gay pride is a rainbow. So, saying it’s a stereotype doesn’t really make any sense.
 
Her hair is stupid to be the only reason to consider her gay, though. Personally, I just think she loves Applejack romantically. ;3

The thing about Dash being gay being bad is that it kind of implies that she’s gay because she has a rainbow motif which is a stereotype.  
If there was a gay character it would be a better idea to use one who doesn’t have any connections to gay stereotypes, or at least less obvious ones.

I disagree, because being gay isn’t a bad thing and Dashie is a hot lesbian. I just hate it when people’s reasons for thinking she’s a lesbian are so one dimensional. She can still be gay, though. In fact, all of the characters except Spike should be gay. :3

I’d support a LGBT character. So long as it’s not Rainbow Dash. One of the reasons I admire the brony fandom is for it’s defiance of society’s stereotypes and what is considered “normal.” Somewhat tragic that so many of said fans attempt to place a label on Dash based on other stereotypes. See, it’s not about homophobia as some may believe, it’s about hypocrisy. I think a straight dash that stands up to what others falsely believe her to be would better reflect this fandom, don’t you think?

That is the single funniest statement I have seen all day.
 
My own headcanon for the episode is that Gildash were friends in Cloudsdale and later a gaygaygayhomogay couple in their high school years, with the end of the girlfriends thing being thought of by Dash as “drifting apart like happens sometimes whatever” and by Gilda as “getting dumped for that damned ground level doormat Fluttershy”. Gilda’s behavior throughout the episode reads to me like an ex girlfriend who had completely different ideas about the relationship than Dash did (or does).
 
That’s headcanon, though, based on how I’ve seen other people’s relationships work and not work and the fact that Gilda and Dash both remind me strongly of individual lesbians I’ve known personally. Canon is that they used to be friends, Gilda wanted to pick the friendship back up again, and Dash didn’t want to because she’s outgrown Gilda’s obnoxious attitude.
 
I’m not harshing anyone’s headcanon; the multitudinous array of interpretations that people come up with based on the limited information onscreen is part of what makes a fandom a fandom. There is, however, still a difference between implication and inference, and that’s where headcanon sits.

To be fair to the crazy person, most of the stereotypical “butch lesbian” attributes do in fact have a strong grounding in reality, at least when you’re talking about averages; that stereotype– like pretty much any stereotype– really only becomes offensive when people assume it can just be universally applied across the board as a way of fitting individuals into categories without having to bother to get to know them at all. That’s what Lauren Herself was talking about when she said that just assuming a rainbow mullet must mean the character is Rainbow Dyke is insulting to tomboys, because hey, some girls are totally hetero and just don’t give a flip about society’s concepts of “girly”.
 
Still, bear in mind that the most “flamboyant” man in 1960s America was Little Richard…  
 
…Who used the universal public assumptions about his flamboyance to get an enormous amount of ”tail”, because all those virulent racist daddies were perfectly okay with their little White daughters hanging out backstage with someone who was so obviously not a threat.

I don’t know where he’s coming from. Even if I watched the show with full shipping goggles on, I could not understand how he would come to the conclusion that Fluttershy or Twilight are gay, let alone solid implications for ANY of them being definitely gay.

I don’t really know or have tried to guess the odds of Gilda’s sexuality, but I’m just against this BP whom claims it’s in any way ‘obvious’ that she or any character is gay. Which according to him is ‘all of the manes at least partially’.

Kids shows sometimes DO take the risk and imply gay innuendos. Some examples are Spongebob’s ‘Bye Squidward’ and Adventure Time’s ‘Marceline and Bubblegum’ scene. To say a kids show like MLP, one that likes stretching its boundries a lot, would NEVER create a character that was supposed to be implied to be gay is a little farfetched.
 
For example, shipping fuel aside, they have made an indirect lesbian joke on MlP before…remember CheerileexFlutterguy’s voice? The writers don’t live in some magical world where a gay hint or gay hint joke is taboo.

Yes, stereotyping is bad. We all know that. But you are arbitrarily attributing her butch personality as a reason to be disliked instead of her simply BEING who she is…a highly possible lesbian dyke character with some antisocial issues.
 
I’m neutral on this subject, I’m just looking at this objectively. I have no strong opinions of whether Gilda is straight or not. She still could be straight, of course, but…

The episode did not imply she was straight. The episode barely implied she was gay either. But given what we know about her, why would anyone assume she is straight FIRST? Its heteronormativity. Of course people are going to object to the idea.
 
I think we should call it quits until someone actually asks one of the writers about Gilda and gets something more solid, cause this WILL go nowhere otherwise.

Kids’ shows can imply that characters are gay and this one did for the reasons I already said. There are lots of kids shows that have innuendos and stuff so the idea that it being a kids show means it can’t have implications of homosexuality is wrong.

Faust just said that the rainbow hair didn’t imply she was gay, there are other things that imply she’s gay, though. In fact, it’s been implied that everyone of the Mane 6 is a lesbian in the show. (Except Rarity who’s bi. Dashie might be too because of Soarin.)

Nothing ever confirmed that Dash was gay or bi and the episode never implied they dated. Faust herself said her intentions were for Dash to NOT symbolize homosexuality in any way.
