it's supposed to represent which country his portal opened up into and the military forces he would be pitted against.
An invasion by sombra wouldn't be a military invasion, it's be more similar to a Zombie Apocalypse, especially if he turns captured humans into more of his brainwashed/possessed soldiers. It's World War 2 in Equestria but World War Z in the Human World.
