Actually, in terms of hit points Rangers are just as tough as Fighters in 5th edition (and Pathfinder, which is what I'm used to). Its just that Rangers are more oriented towards survival skills and monster hunting, while Fighters gravitate towards weapons and armor training. In addition, a fighter is more likely to specialize towards one thing, whereas AJ has more skills than just archery.


 
And... well, there's more indication that somepony else enchanted the arrow, since there's no indicators AJ can even use magic in this pic, unlike Twilight. On a character level, I really don't think arcane magic is AJ's thing. She's a believer in hard work rather than fancy magic. Also, on a stat level, I doubt she has the INT _*or_* CHA to do much arcane magic.
