There's also a talking panther, a singing grey bear and orangutan, and tiger antagonist in the movie so adding in a snake that has the ability to hypnotize his victims into submission before eating them doesn't do the movie much realistic justice. I'm pretty sure everyone knows that. Also Disney already has a knack for twisting real events around to make their darker stories more family friendly. They gotta keep making that money off of their silly twist somehow.
