The only good “how it should have ended” was the one about solving LotR by having the eagles fly the Fellowship to Mount Doom. Almost all fix fic ignores the fact that the premise of the episode was ill-conceived and instead focuses on improving on the execution. The result is a better-polished turd.

I’ve heard that the writing in recent EqG is on par (if not better) than FiM. However, the facts that the characters aren’t horse-shaped and it being a high school AU kill any and all interest I have in it. Similarly, I’ve never watched Steven Universe because I can’t stand the art style.

I think where this would turn out okay is that it is a full AU. It isnt like we are watching the same episodes with subtle tweaks. It is more like how EQG is a AU of FiM, just…ya know. With actual ponies. I feel like the characters are similar enough that when you start watching, you are like, okay, these are the girls. But the world and background are different enough that this won’t be competing with FiM. Twilight will face different challenges and growth. Fluttershy will come from somewhere different. Applejack has some scars this time around. The world is different, bigger, with more lurking in the dark.  
But these are our mane 6 at heart.

That’s exactly it. In spite of the fact that there are many ways FiM could have been improved, there are even more ways in which “FiM but done right this time” can end up significantly worse than FiM.

Hmmm, I think I get ya. It sounds to me like you might prefer a more complete reboot, something that wouldn’t carry the stigma of having to out-do FiM, only to ene up disappointing?  
And with the concept art, yeah. It is still the really weak link. It could look horrible animated, it could look great.

Hmmm…I don’t know that I agree, personally.
Reading the plot details, it looks exciting. Looks like we get more backstory on the mane 6, the mane 6 are not changing very much, and it looks like they want to build on G4 with the lessons they learned making it.
But what would make a reboot good in your opinion?
 
What would make it good? Pretty much the opposite of that. The way you put it, it sounds like G5 will be a remake of G4 rather than a reboot. Could it be an improved FiM with an internally-consistent meta-story? Yes. Do I have high hopes that the writers will handle it that way? Definitely not. I’ll at least be willing to give it a watch to see if it’s a pleasant surprise or if it’s exactly as disappointing as I expect.

Those are rather old leaks and are both not officially confirmed and contradicted by official reveals.
Is that really true? Because, personally, I am not really enthusiastic about this whole “reboot” thing for G5. I mean, what’s the point? It’s like making a reboot of the freaking PPG and it’s less awesome then of the 90s! If G5 of MLP was a continuation of G4 then I would be totally passionate about it already. Well, only if they continued with the same design because the G4 design of the ponies is fucking gorgeous as hell compared to the design of the previous generations.
 
From the leaked G5 concept art I’ve seen, their fundamental design is closer to vanilla G4 designs than much high-quality fanwork. G5 designs from those leaks are more or less G4 but with more detailing in their manes and wings. I’d still need to see it animated to see if it’s actually a good look or not (great animation often produces shitty stills and great concept art sometimes falls flat when animated)

Well, yeah. I’m not Tara Strong, I do not know what she meant.  
But what seems to true is that she has some understanding of the future of MLP, which for some is irrelevant, for others it is exciting, for me it is interesting.  
I’m looking forward to getting some new content once Season 9 ends.

Oh, sorry, my bad.  
Personally, I think she means either a sequel series or FiM in some new medium.  
And 2021 is just the far end of Hasbro’s plans. They apparently have alot in store until then, they just aren’t planning on sharing it until they are ready to release it. I think we will have some more details by December.

Not what I meant, it is a quote from Tara Strong’s interview with Comic Book.com back in the spring.  
Specifically, she said she expects FiM to be back, maybe just in a different way.  
Super duper vague, so I don’t know what she meant. She could mean G5, she could mean a new series, she could mean new mediums like a web series or something.  
In a interview with CBR, I believe, she also mentioned that she knows that Twilight is back for the 2021 movie, but isnt sure what is after that.

Yup. They got a ton of traction in the fandom, but alot of more experienced folks found some serious flaws in the leaks. Then, DHX denied their authenticity, and the timeline in the leaks kinda fell apart.  
So, at the moment, the leaks are pretty flimsy.  
Tara Strong actually said she is expecting another FiM series, though it may be different from the way it is now.  
Sounds like she has some kind of info, TBH.

Besides even if the G5 leaks were true, that was almost two years ago (another three months for it to be a full two years ago) and it was just concept art and ideas being thrown around. Nothing set in stone.
