Another ponyfan here from way back in the G1 era, right up to the present day. Sure, I was little when I started watching (about 3 or 4 when I first saw Rescue at Midnight Castle), but I can assure you…I was never a girl. xD

Yeah, not gonna lie, I feel like that was why Nick wasn’t brought back. This super hero thing was a good idea, but I miss the EQG that was just a high school anime only with magical horse girls.  
Season 1 was good, especially forgotten friendship.  
The specials were good, but I am really looking forward to Boulder taking the helm. Especially after how much fun Rainbow Roadtrip was.

If you’re not a FIM fan or have a background understanding of FIM, magic in EGQ is pure garbage. They’re humans in the human world doing human things with human technology… but they have magic… Why did we tack magic onto this?

Yup.  
I think I read that a part of this is Hasbro rethinking how they present their content.  
In a 2017 interview with Hasbro’s CEO, he mentioned that they have no plans to change the franchise, they are pleased with the film and the characters. But he said they were looking for a new method of presenting their stories, one that could drive sales more efficiently.  
So it sounds to me likethey are kind of experimenting with that.

Nope. EQG was just talking about the leaks. At this moment, the only official word we have is that G4 is continuing in every form except a TV series through 2020 at the least. We also have some unofficial comments by actors, show staff, and executives that hint that EQG will be back and that the Mane 6 are not going anywhere.  
I heard G5, if it is real, would be revealed in February 2020.

And we all have to bear in mind G5 is still a big if. An unconfirmed leak from 2 years ago is a long way from an official announcement.

I liked the fic you linked. It was the “real-life consequences” for the episode (which the writers often can’t fit into 22 minutes). Instead of being a fix fic whose goal is to give a more plausible return to the status quo than the episode left with, it was an epilogue that gave moments of character growth.

Eh, mostly where characters have issues with having been born, a 14 year old stabs someone and has PTSD over it, his mom is a pretty screwed up person, etc…  
I’m kinda on my own about that, but its just my personal issue with Steven Universe.

You are right about EQG, it has gotten really, really good writing.  
That is why I have got alot of hope for G5. I think it is most accurately described as EQG but done right from the start.  
We didn’t like the crap writing? We have good writers.  
We didn’t like the Mane six just copy and pasted? We have the same name 6 with their own characters for this.  
We didn’t like the crappy world building.  
We have an incredibly well thought out world.  
We didn’t like that there were no ponies?  
Ladies and gentlecolts. We have ponies.

Eh, I prefer to think that any premise can be executed in a satisfying way.  
But my personal favorite kind of fix fic is actually the type that follows up on an episode of the show.  
Like, this is probably my all time favorite, and pretty much my gold standard for followups: https://www.fimfiction.net/story/169652/the-lessons-left-unlearned  
There’s no torture that goes too far, there’s no undeserved punishment, just a nice little slice of life followup that actually explains why the characters’ behaviors made sense in context.
 
 

 
As far as the specials go (since that’s where my interest has lied for a while), it’s a mixed bag.  
The best one is Mirror Magic, though.
