Lessee now; Thod here debuted in "Gauntlet of Fire", which aired on April 16, 2016. _*How to Train Your Dragon_* aired on March 26, 2010, while _*How to Train Your Dragon 2_* aired on June 13, 2014. So this specific design did, in fact, debut after _*HtTYD_* came out.


 
In fact, depending on which version of Spike we're talking about, G4 Spike _*also_* postdates the _*HtTYD_* movies -- the Season 1 premiere aired on October 10, 2010, making the original _*How to Train Your Dragon_* older than any G4 dragon by about five or six months at a minimum.
