You only give up if you only focus on canon.
There's always fanfiction and fanart. Yeah, I have to admit I get annoyed when people say that since I think it's unadaptable for television or streaming or theatres, but I have to accept that people won't care about it and I have learned this the hard way.
Not to mention fanfiction is made by fans for fans.
People are allowed to ship whatever they want and enjoy what they do ship, even if canon just sunk our precious ship. You should do the same instead of focusing on just visible canon. Hell, there are AUs, or hell make your own alternate universe or continuity where Flash and Twily get together.
