If I remember correctly I posted this due to yet another ponies and meat discussion.
 
So, yeah, the first official comic has depictions of meat and butchering on ponies' cutie marks.  
Also Fluttershy needs to feed the carnivorous creatures at some point.
 
And knowing real horses, they don't care if your sandwich has meat in it.

Short version:
 
Horses eat meat without a doubt, but they can't really get much out of it on a digestive level.
 
They don't care if your sandwich has a slice of ham or if insects crawl over their actual food.
