I don't think Schorl's story shares all the glaring flaws of the original. It takes over some of the issues that come with the setting, sometimes due to NCN's meddling, sometimes simply due to the fact that it took up his canon, but it also builds around them in ways that are often quite clever,. aOftend even in very subtle ways.
Also, while Schorl apparently doesn't want to take up the caribou past their defeat any more, there are caribou survivors in her finale. Others can write stories about them. I plan to do so myself, for example. In my stories, not all caribou are villains though. And incidentally, as far as I know, Schorl also plans continue writing FoE stories that take place during the regime. I'm fairly certain caribou will appear in them.
