They're probably just gonna ignore how he's able to do it (or not make it a big deal, when it is) and just use him as an oversized siege weapon/batering ram though. Which is cool in its own way, but I think the point was that it'd be better if the show focused on that for his character's progression instead. Like, will he really only grow naturally if he's greedy? Can he grow any other way? Can the ponies help him with that? Will he change and become more rebelious as every "adult" around him starts looking smaller and weaker? Will everyone still see him the same way once he starts growing large, scary claws and fangs, accidentally knocking down houses or burning them down to ashes with a sneeze? Etc.


 
I agree there's so much they can do with him, I would really like to see them use any of that instead of another _*"Spike lets power/respect/greed get to his head and screws up again"_*.
