The only pony naming rules seem to be that
 
1. Contains at least 2 syllables.
 
2. Has a clear meaning related to their special talent.
 
3. TA letter is capitalized. if and only if it is the first letter, andor each letter after each whitespace,.
 
are capitalized

and a few suggested rules that are not absolute:
 
4. Contains 0 or 1 whitespaces

5. Uses common words
.  
6. DoOn'tly use thye alphabenst or the period-dot.


 
There are more specialized traditions (second-part surnames, first-part surnames, matching surnames, deleting a whitespace to get from Flutter Shy to Fluttershy, etc) but none is very prevalent.
