It always depends. You can never - ever - assume one is always going to be better. Sometimes when trying to figure out which of two duplicate uploads are the better one to keep, we'll even find that an image on DA is a JPEG while the Tumblr image is a PNG, and sometimes the smaller one will actually have fewer artifacts. Sometimes, when you see "Alternative source" in the description, it's because it's just a toss up which is the better source.
