So Phoenix Point isn’t being made by Firaxis?

I honestly don’t get why PC gamers are upset over “Exclusives”. Everyone seems to love exclusives like Spider Man, and God of War when it comes to Sony, or Halo when it comes to Microsoft. Console exlusives are much more limiting, forcing someone to buy a 200$ system if they don’t own that console, but PC “exclusives” just require a 5 minute free download of another store.

For starters, and I’m genuinely curious if you haven’t heard this one yet, the games are being exclusive to a launcher that doubles as spyware.
 
There’s also the part where these things were promised releases to other stores only to renege on those promises, but yeah spyware.

I’ve only heard accusations of spyware so far, no definitive proof yet. Also I doubt any game company would promise to release on Steam if they could easily make more money somewhere else, that’s just dumb and bad business.

Epic Games’ CEO (?) literally came out and admitted that the thing pokes around in your data files without permission.
 
And there’s 3 big name games that came out and said they were gonna be widely available but then went Epic exclusives: Phoenix Point, Metro Exodus and now Outer Worlds. Both Phoenix Point and Outer Worlds openly advertised they would be on Steam, while Metro Exodus was up for pre-order on Steam since forever before backing out a mere 3 weeks before release.

Well, they did and have broke that promise. And if you know anything about PC gaming, you’d know that Steam is where most big named companies upload their game since Steam has the monopoly on PC game launchers.

I haven’t heard about that, and if it’s true it shouldn’t be allowed to happen.
 
Though the other thing isn’t really an issue, if game was going to have a wider release before the EGS offered them more revenue then it makes sense for them to take the better offer so the game makes more money. Steam still let users who pre-ordered play on the plat form just not anyone else because of the deal.

What promise and to who? A promise to Steam? A promise to Steam Users? A promise to people who haven’t bought the game yet? People that pre-ordered on Steam still got to play. Them putting up a Steam page before being offered a deal with EGS isn’t them making a promise to anyone except for the people that actually bought the pre-order, and again they were still able to play on Steam.

Yeah, and I’m doing the quest that requires me to hunt down the supposed “dead” general, but I’m having a hard time staying alive even with my companion Sven. The Ash Spawns are surprisingly tough at a lower level

Ja, there was a lot of good will to EGS at first. Everyone loved the larger cut it gives devs and want to see Steam lose their monopoly.
 
But then all these ‘surprise exclusives’ and ‘spyware’ happened and not a lot of people are looking too fond on EGS right now.

To backers (since at least one was a kick-starter) and announced to their costumers that the game was going to be on Steam. It’s like if a game was being hyped for the Switch and than was suddenly released on the Xbox instead without warning.

The Kickstarter one was truly insulting. Back a game expecting it on steam and GoG, only to be told “lol we’re taking your money and if you all cancel it won’t matter”. Infuriating.

I have no clue about the Kick-starter thing, but it would be odd if on the kickstarter page they specifically promised the game would be going to Steam. Also, they aren’t customers if they haven’t actually bought the game yet.
 
And like I said earlier comparing it to consoles doesn’t make sense, you don’t have to buy another 200$ system, just download a free launcher that takes 10 minutes.

Technically they did buy the game because they backed it and were promised a steam or gog key and all dlc for a year.

Phoenix Point still says it’ll be on GOG and Steam on its crowdfunding page. This is the one that was all “lol we don’t need you anymore thanks for the interest free loans suckers”.
 
And Outer Worlds displays the Steam logo in its announcement trailer.
