Spike enjoys geodes for their :"mystery flavor" aspect. Unfortunately, they're hard to tell apart from normal rocks without opening them up and ruining the surprise, so he can't enjoy them as often as he might like to.

I don't think it necessarily would _*need_* to be an origin story. It'd be just like Discord to brush the whole matter off as "You didn't ask."
