Why do you think you’re worthy of a participation badge if you refuse to participate?

I really don’t get how all those dark-themes are better. For my eyes, after I read long text with white font on dark background I starting to see green-white spots in shape of lines, like after I look at an sun or at lightbulb. And nothing similliar happens when I read black text on a light background.
