Kinda getting concerned with how fixated Trump is on deporting US citizens to that megaprison in El Salvador. He’s mentioned it multiple times now, saying he would love to do it to “hardened criminals,” repeatedly referring to these hypothetical criminals as “animals.”
Meanwhile Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries issued a joint statement today saying they are introducing a bill to clarify that all the illegal shit Trump and Musk are doing is in fact illegal. Jeffries reiterated how Democrats will find common ground across the aisle with their Republican colleagues. Those same Republicans whom Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) has suggested are perfectly okay with what the administration is doing. Thus Dem leadership continues to be worse than useless.
So here’s the thing: It’s unlawful and unconstitutional to deport US citizens to another country. This is backed by decades of judicial precedent. But Trump and Musk have been flagrantly ignoring the law and now two separate court orders, and nobody is making any sort of moves to stop him besides feeble insistence “that’s illegal!” and the occasional lawsuit filed. Neither the military nor established law enforcement bodies are lifting a finger to do anything, except for the latter threatening House Dems with arrest when they try to go down to the Treasury and USAID buildings to see what’s going on.
So if Trump can just ignore established law with zero consequences because law enforcement is obeying him and his Attorney General, what’s stopping him from sending anyone who opposes him to his fascist buddies in El Salvador for torture and forced labor?
