They use tips as an excuse to not pay minimum wage, when they should have a steady wage quite a bit higher than mimimum, just for dealing with people.
That just means the tiny amount they make is random. Often the schedule is random too, so it's impossible to work another job without jumping ship.
Dishwashers also get random schedules where they're jerked around to make 25$ on inconsistent notice. This is below garbage, less than shit.
I say just raise the prices to whatever the socially acceptable tip gets it to.
I don't want to have to sit around doing math in front of my GF because some dishonest business practice.
Finnally something I can report accurately on. I'm in a rare set of circumstances, where I can only get work from scumbags, with no support system to get me out. If I had a lot of money, i'd use it to bet that i'm still more poor than you.
EDIT: Also the average person is a moron. They subconsciously give decent tips to cute girls, but book it when it's an older man. The public should not be deciding how much money that establishments worker is making. Yeah there is lots of stories of beautiful women making a killing off tips. Men and people with disabilities or disfigurements don't get shit.
