#1 - The “Main” Character

We have this girl, who seemingly has no idea who she is or where she is. The cat girl she first sees says she was born from the Sandstar.

But the thing is, she is the only human being. Of this series. Of this world. She also has a backpack for unknown reasons that she still has not opened for whatever reason. She just has it for the sole reason for being called “Bag-chan.” She doesn't really have a purpose in this world, either. She's just there and she's now going to a certain place to learn who she really is.

#2 - The “Supporting” Characters

They talk, walk on two feet, have eyes and human ears separate to their animal ears. It’s almost as if they’re wearing human beings wearing animal costumes. Or much deeply put: mutations of animals and humans. In episode 2, an animal that was considered strong was able to literally pick up the front part of a safari truck and jump to another side of a river over some rather flimsy platforms placed on the water. Humans can’t do that, unfortunately.

These animals also have no concept of herds or packs as well. Each animal is completely on its own, whether their source animals are supposed live in bunches or not. And not only do we see only one of each animal, they are also all female as well, meaning they currently have no means of reproducing on their own.

#3 - The “Evil” Characters

…these evil characters, called Ceruleans, are creepers that the Friends must be careful of. Not only are they completely out-of-this-world-looking with a single eye, they seem to be made by the same particles that make these Friends, and they are capable of “eating” Friends. They come in all shapes and sizes, and while can be destroyed, is something that are feared by all of these wild animals.

#4 - The Setting

The Sandstar - These are colorful, animal-shaped particles that are released from a faraway volcano, which apparently erupts every once in a while by the gist of some of the conversations. They are capable of giving birth to these mutant animals, and (like I said before) also the Ceruleans, who are out to eat these Friends.

Japari Park - An obvious mix of Japan and Safari Park, it also becomes obvious that this area that the animals live in is a completely deserted attraction park. There are information boards, cafes, brochures, and even a performance area. The word “Library” is used as a place of information and where Friends can learn about themselves. The problem is, it’s now completely void of any human intervention for what seems like years. There is an abandoned bus, with an engine separated to the other side of the river, and containing a decomposed battery. The only working piece of technology is…

Lucky Beast - …this Furby-with-no-hair mechanical robot with a vast database of information regarding the park, even though its database seemingly has not been updated for a while. It acts as a guide to Kaban/Bag-chan and is trying to lead the group to the Library. However, the thing is, this robot will only interact with and only with human beings. It will also only react when and only when said human is conscious. Serval confirms this when she proclaims that the night scene was the first time she had heard it talk. Lucky Beast also refused to even react once Bag-chan begins sleeping.[/spoiler]||
