A pinch collar (also called a prong collar) is like a choke chain but it has prongs on the inside and it has an extra part that makes it so that you can’t choke your dog. Mine doesn’t mind it at all and just wants me to hurry up and put it on her so we can go on a walk XD.

Oh fail I just noticed that your dog is the Chihuahua. Yea I don’t recommend a pinch collar for small dogs. I have no idea how to discipline a small dog. Maybe a spank on the butt? XD they’re so tiny that you can’t exactly do much with them or else they’ll break.
A dog forum maybe might be able to help. There’s even breed specific ones so they might have Chihuahua forums you can go to.

From what I’ve heard, pinch collars more or less mimic what mother dogs do when they’re trying to stop puppies from doing behavior they don’t like seeing, like fighting with other puppies. It’s also a way to more or less distract them and “snap out” of them doing bad behavior. Kinda like making certain sounds.

That’s good she’s at least people friendly. That’s always good.

@Babyroxas
Yeah, it might not be a good idea for a smaller dog. Bigger ones maybe, but not a smaller one. Maybe a quick tap on her shoulder could work? There’s also spray bottles so if she does something aggressive towards another dog, just give her a spray of water?

There’s also different types of positive reinforcements. Toys and treats could possibly work too.

We do discipline her, not like beatings. I would never abuse my dog, just a little tap. A stern “Jojo” works too.

also she’s a Rat Terrier :p

@mjangelvortex
Jojo loves her treats. That’ll definitely work.

That’s good. Then try distracting her with treats and reward her when she behaves around other dogs. If she acts up around other dogs, no treats. She’ll get the hang of it sooner or later.

Speaking of dogs and disciplining. My Rusty’s kind of having a problem with nipping. He doesn’t do it often and he thankfully doesn’t bite furniture.

It’s just sometimes when he’s playing he goes after cloth and bites it like his blanket, his bed, or my clothes. He sometimes bites hands when playing too. And I want to correctly curb that behavior and get him to stop. Distracting him with a toy and yelping usually works but not always like what happened moments ago. He doesn’t bite hard too which is another good thing but I don’t want this to be a bad habit that grows into adulthood with him.

Mine finally stopped teething like that (at 2 1/2 years)but she still likes to put my hand in her mouth. I’d do the same thing and say “No, bite toy” and she’d chew on her toy while I pet her. Now I usually can just say No Biting or Stop and she’ll just kinda freeze there for a second while I go back to petting her. If she keeps doing it i’ll get up and walk away.

Oh and yea no my dog becomes a tyrant when it comes to food. Can’t use treats most of the time.
Sheba just got over ringworm in just a week after spraying vinegar with lavender oil (diluted of course)on the spot and using medicated shampoo. Now the vinegar bottle has been sitting outside in the heat for two weeks and its pretty strong.

I plan on using that on her when we’re around dogs XD smells like A1 Steak Sauce to me.
I usually try when she sees a dog we walk the other way and slowly get closer. Sometimes i’m too slow and she’s already going berserk. Hopefully I can use the spray just once and she’ll learn to listen to me before acting out.
I’ve tried it at home when she’s barking at people behind the fence and it really helped. Haven’t tried it when she sees a person walking a dog behind the fence though. She completely does not listen to me and she’s so fast and strong that I can’t grab her and hold her long enough until the dog is gone.

We have neighbors who have dogs and since the fence is old she’s slowly breaking her way in. Right now she’s blocked off from it but if she’s putting people in danger i’m going to have to use force.

Yeah, some dogs can get super touchy and possessive over food (and too much food can cause health problems) so if your dog doesn’t do good with food, it’s best not to go that route with her.

I also read about using the vinegar today for the biting. They don’t like the smell and taste of it I heard (but it’s also safe to use so you don’t have to worry about the poor pupper getting sick).

Yea she’s fine with us touching her bowl and feeding her. My baby nephew (same age as her) even feeds her and takes food out of her bowl and hand feeds her. Its just that she gets so pushy.
I make her do commands before she gets to eat and well yesterday I told her to “Shake” so she decided to get it over with quickly and put all of her weight on it and ended up scratching my arm.
She use to jump all over me and she’d try to bark (she’s a quiet dog so it takes her two practice barks before she can actually bark) to say “Hurry it up”.

She’s just a kid who needs more training XD nothing too serious when it comes to food but it iss something that needs to be nipped in the bud.

That’s good. Thankfully she’s not food aggressive.

And I think the pushiness applies to Rusty too with us. When we prepare his food or when one of us is eating, he’ll start barking. I haven’t given him table scraps because I don’t want him to get a begging habit like what happened with our old dog Oreo, but I guess given the barking it still kinda happened anyways.

Speaking of, I haven’t posted either of them in this thread.

This is Oreo, he was a Lhasa Apso and I had him since he was three months old. I was still a child in elementary school when we got him so he actually pretty much literally grew up with me. He’s helped me through countless panic attacks and through my depression despite him not being a trained therapy dog. He’d just know something would be wrong and he would just come over to me and sit by my side.

Despite being small, he was a protective dog and he would be protective towards us if need be. For example, there was one period where my mom was unfortunately unstable and she did get violent with me and my dad. And despite his small size, Oreo fought her and started biting her which gave us enough time to call for help.

He was also rather smart. We had a gate to prevent him from leaving the kitchen and he managed to be able to escape a few times by pushing a chair by the gate, climbed up ontop of the chair, and hopped over the gate. He did this without being taught and he did this multiple times.

Unfortunately he passed away at the age of 16 on November of 2017.

But the good news is, Rusty was able to pass the torch so to speak. He’s a mini GoldenDoodle and he’s currently 6 months old. We’ve only had him for a month but I’ve really bonded with him since then. He’s also rather smart and rather feisty and energetic. And he’s really friendly.

Both rescues. Honey was the shelter’s longest time resident and Buddha had been relinquished twice. We noticed they spent a lot of time around each other at the shelter, so we took them both. I’ve always gone for the biggest rejects when adopting. Honey is a special needs cat and Buddha just lacked training. They are very affectionate cats.
