I guess what I am trying to say is that I’d have loved to see his character in a more serious tone in the show.
Finally being able to be kind, generous, honest, loyal, funny (the complete antithesis of his character), but mantaining his magic and chaotic nature, to ALL creatures.
Wouldn’t have that been infinitely better than just being a comic relief or a plot device?

Tbh, the writers didn’t give justice to his character, we did not even get a proper backstory regarding his species.
I personally think they didn’t had a clue to how use him after keep calm and flutter on, and just decide to reform him because he was a fan-favourite at that time.
I feel like he is wasted potential, and kinda feel sorry for those who like his character even now, such as myself.
If he had at least a quarter of Starlight’s character development, he’ll not be hated this much, but alas Season 8 and 9 happened, and it’s really sad, because the concept of a creature of disharmony slowly learning and understanding the power of friendship from the all the elements of harmony (and not just Fluttershy) without always recurring to his magic would have been way more interesting than a simple gifted unicorn, he could have been the most intriguing character of the series, something more than a plot device but hey, that’s just my opinion I guess…

Wanting the villain who wants to forcibly conquer and kill our protagonist to win over someone who will ultimately do the right thing because they have made mistakes over the years is kinda crazy. Discord still learning to be good doesn’t mean that he doesn’t wanna be good, hes literally a two time war hero and if u have read the s10 comics saved a entire kingdom in recognized all his past mistakes in prison with fluttershy. The belief that he doesn’t deserve to be rooted for because its harder for others to become a better person over someone who wants to do evil for there own self severing reasons is messed up and misses the point of his character and the entire show. Just saying.

Heh, if we really wanna go that route and believe some episodes never happened, then I want to pretend season 9 “The End of The End” never happened either. I mean that is full of bad writing and it probably hurts Discord more than any other episode. I wish I could just pretend most of Discord episodes ever happened so I can like him again. Also damn that’s a weird way to want to spend time with someone, literally torturing students, destroying the school itself, ruining her job, and insulting her “incompetent, power-hungry unicorn”. No wonder no one invited him to the school lol
Discord is such a weird breed. At least we know Cozy is always evil and sticks to it, and the Mane Six are usually nice and likeable, but Discord is just torn in between all wishy washy. He can be a genuinely sweet and likeable character but they seldom let him be one because he is chaotic. He’s always nerfed because the episodes would probably be less than 3 minutes if he wasn’t, which is probably why he looks so weak. Maybe reforming him wasn’t such a good idea.
No matter, if people can continue to defend Discord then I can continue to defend Starlight Glimmer and support Cozy Glow too. Because one is genuinely trying to grow and redeem herself while the other is a character with much more integrity and is just overall more fun to watch. :V

I’ll be serious here. The fact that Discord is naturally chaotic means he’s suddenly free of responsibilities and self controls is just ridiculous. It was shown in the same episode where he almost disappeared that he could use his chaotic nature for good and fun instead of pranks and danger, so there’s really no excuse for him to be such a jerk all the times. It’s kinda sad to think he can only be chaotic and that he has no room for improvement to be honest. It’s like that’s all he is. Discord is nothing but an annoying jerk who likes to mess with others because he feels left out. Cozy Glow is evil sure and probably won’t change for the better, but wouldn’t Discord be the same if we always just excuse his actions with it being his nature? I mean Moondancer was also left out and she isn’t chasing students with a bugbear or trap friends in a Dungeons & Dragons game with another danger of death. I really wish we could have more Discord from “Discordant Harmony” and “The Break Up Break Down” where he is actually considerate and helpful but alas, it could only be a dream.
i see where your coming from but to be fair from discords perspective he got punished with almost dying for trying to be that level of nice of a person, so he probably just said oh well guess ill stay the edgy anti hero.

yeh like honestly i get being mad at discord there were times where i wasn’t completely on board with his character but then again the same could be said for the main six. The writers of the show are flawed but honestly completely devaluing his character that i have seen lately, takes away from the impact that he has brought but maybe thats just my opinion because RoH is more or less what got me fully into the series when i was younger.

one reason its overlooked is because discord would actually never do something like this just because hes jealous. Discord trolled twilight all day just so he could spend time with starlight. Despite both him and trixie being against each other he more or less tried to end the beef by complimenting her magical skills. Basically he would never treat starlight like that at the point of his character development its the same as holding some other episodes against the main six when there out of character.

It’s right about how some writers just don’t want Discord to improve like a person, meanwhile in Discords and Dungerous, despiste he done the things wrong, at least he apoligies for that, there is anything Nicole Dubuc wrotes, she just writes Discord like a strange fusion between reformed Discord and S2 Discord, failing in both ways. And i really can’t trust in her when she just excuses in Twitter about how she writes Discord, just like that infamous bugbear scene, she said the kids are safe, the monster isn’t real… nothing establishes that.
If Nicole Dubuc can write the reformation of Ahuizotl… why she can’t write a good Discord? Even Jeremy Whitley with all his flaws wrotes a 100% better Discord than her.
And i am not defending Discord at all, he isn’t a hero, he’s a villain who tries to be reformed (Somethings like Cosmos’ arc didn’t understand), but i see that people can’t see when it’s Discord’s fault or just bad writing. With other character somebody can say “oh, it’s bad writing, she’s perfect” but with Discord, always is those type of debates.

Discord (IDW Comics) is multiversal+, so even with the Alicorn Amulet, she’s no match against him.
Also, in my opinion, he’s simply a better character than Cozy, RoH was an amazing premiere especially thanks to John, which led many people to become fan of the show, such as myself.
If the writers didn’t put that stupid twist in the s9 finale, he’d still be a fan-favourite, but it is what it is…

Sandbar pleaded for a break, only for Discord to yell at his face. His life was in freaking danger for Christ’s sake

Yona was literally being tortured. She was too tired to run. She was even crying. Discord was torturing a teenage girl. If it weren’t for Starlight Glimmer, Yona along with Sandbar and Silverstream because they were trying to save her, would have been dead. There was no sign of Discord vanishing the bugbear and he was just standing there letting it happen.

Yet somehow in the exact same episode Starlight was the one apologizing to Discord. Why do people always overlook this? Does being chaotic require you to torture and try to kill kids too? lol

its ok tho if people don’t like discord it won’t stop him from appearing in more things or being an important part of the fandom/story whether people like and or not. Won’t change all the W’s he has gotten. Forgetting the legend who got so many here because he wasn’t written in a way they liked over time. At least respect it. Cozy she was aight but it wont change that her last appearance is being a rock somewhere or that she has to take blame for her fate as well.
it also wont stop the fact that just because derpibooru is a cesspool of dwk stans and discord haters that many do like discord
