Appledash is only a couple at the end of the series, not during the series. I thought it was obvious. How their attitude change. But that’s subtext, not everyone have learned it apparently.

it is not so difficult to understand their history after the death of these parents the family appeal redoubled effort to make live the farm, to the point where AJ no longer had fun as a child of his age.
 
raimbow due to be awakened one day by a hoof blow that knocked her down from a tree.  
with her temper she due him a challenge with insistence to regain her pride.  
His challenges allowed AJ to become a child of his age again and a friendship was born.
 
Since she continues to challenge them it’s like this that they are friends.  
there has been no hint since the start of the series.

also actual staff have said that Fluttercord and appledash are up to interpretation.  
in the episode is just rainbow dash saying they will get two places faster if she help with chores and they look at each other at not just the end of the episode but the entire series

Now concerning Appledash for example, since it’s by far the most hated revelation:
