If you look at the old Transformers Rescue Bots series, the following series, Rescue Bots Academy made by Boulder, is a technical sequel, with all the same characters. So, it wouldn’t be out of left field to get a series that carries on, just not as a direct sequel.  
Plus, according to Boulder, the models for the special were all made from scratch by them. Even though it looks very much like the movie, I guess that was just because of Toon Boom Harmony. That was a LOT of work for just a single special.

I wonder if the reason why Rainbow Roadtrip had an opening is because Boulder Media is going to make a tv series with that name and intro.

Right!? I found the website changes here on derpibooru, and just found the Facebook changes last night. Between that and Rainbow Roadtrip, it feels like Hasbro is building towards something, and I really want to find out what.

That is a funny question.  
Hasbro already confirmed MLP ain’t ending. FiM is having a series conclusion, followed by a new…something.  
We are getting like, S4 rainbow power vibes.  
We got the Rainbow Roadtrip, the website is now calling the mane 6 the rainbow squad, the Facebook page updated the MLP logo to this…rainbow version surrounded by Twilight’s colors.  
Something big is coming, honestly. I’m really excited for it, I do not know what it is, but given the special, and the toys, and now the marketing, it may very well be a follow up to the series, done in Boulder’s vision. And Boulder does seem to understand and love MLP themselves.  
Really, DD, boil it down. What do you love about MLP?  
For me, it is the characters, the friendship, and the rainbows. Rainbow Roadtrip not only did all of that, but their version of the rainbow power made it work, even when DHX never accomplished that.

yeah I heard the reason was because it was just too pricey to keep holding it at the Baltimore Convention Center and they didn’t know where they could move to without the con suffering somehow. it’s just coincidence it lines up with the final season.

Does anypony here think MLP should get more seasons?

So, Bronycon decided to make this their last year as a convention. We usually do get a snippet of animation or whatnot at Bronycon, I think, but probably not this year.  
It’s really too bad, but I guess they are ending the con not because of the S9 thing but just because it was too expensive.  
Alot of the local cons are still going forward.

Oh, absolutely agreed. Plus, I think their S9 announcement said whatever comes next is going to be more than FiM…so, pretty ambitious!  
I still wonder what Hasbro meant by “continuing to develop their stories told on multiple forms of media”  
What does that multiple forms mean? I wonder if the next series may not be a traditional TV series…or may be better supported by other media forms, like print and digital?
 
It seems like they are waiting…full G4 roster through 2020, which is about as far out as we can learn at this stage.  
And you are right about the announcement time. Heck, usually don’t we learn about a new season a few months before it starts? It may be a while before the next big animated series gets announced.  
Of course, now that we have said that, watch us get a full announcement at Bronycon.

Part of my trust in the leaks is that I honestly doubt Hasbro would simply kill off one of their biggest current cash cows without SOMETHING to replace it soon after. Of course, business-wise I’d probably want to wait a few years to (preferably) build up a need for more. Plus all the stuff about Gen5 would be subject to change. It’s much like games. If you announce too early, you lock yourself into something that might not pan out. But if nothing is announced officially, nothing is set in stone.

No problem!! We are all just trying to wrap our heads around what is going on, and what is coming. Our community had a rough go of it when the announcement came. I’m just glad to see people are starting to calm down lol. Thanks for hearing me out though! And you have a good point of the emails, too. Honestly, having Meghan as the head makes me more trusting of whatever we get next. Just look at her Twitter, she seriously loves MLP. To be honest, I actually love the content in the leaks. It looks great. My only concern was the “darker world” thing, but that’s just because MLP has always been a bright spot in my life. Under McCarthy, I dont think it would be like, Dark Souls bad, maybe more 2017 movie level.  
And you are not wrong about Boulder. Allspark oversees Boulder, but I think Boulder is supposed to animate and produce all Hasbro shows from now on. I guess that was why DHX and Hasbro split, it was too expensive for DHX to handle the…jeez…9 new shows coming?  
It seems like Boulder has alot of love for MLP though, and the special was really really fun, so I’m looking forward to them injecting some new life into the series.  
I absolutely agree with you on the OP thing. We can’t demand a 10th season, especially when that demand is driven by fear of change.

Researching the leaks was a huge headache. It took me…weeks to find a reliable original post, and even then it is clear just weeks after it came out it had already splintered into a bunch of modified copies. One even said the new show would feature strong cursing!! Can you imagine?  
I agree wholeheartedly. A leak is a stolen glimpse at something under construction. The final product will look really, really different.  
I feel like these comment sections are falling apart a little less, like people are calming down a bit. I’ve always felt like it would help if Hasbro had a stronger presence and actually had some news for us. It seems like they want things tight lipped though. Even that one social media guy at Boulder got slapped for revealing EQG wasnt dead. Poor guy didnt even give any details, just hinted they would be working on it.

Weather they start advertising for Generation 5 in 2020 or 2022 that’s when I’ll begin to form an opinion on Generation 5.
 
In all fairness if the community actually had a straightforward list of all of the leaks that have happened. Including why, where, and when each leak happened. Then I would be willing to ever so slightly open the door for speculative discussion. However as far as I know no such a list exists.

We wouldn’t be seeing an ad for a Generation 5 following the leak schedule for a while. I believe Generation 5 was listed as starting sometime around 2022 in the leak. But you have a fair stance.

Ok fair enough. I still believe the leaks for Gen5 but I’ll concede that you have convincing enough evidence to the contrary. However, the email thing is still easy to explain. Meghan McCarthy was still working on My Little Pony after accepting the position of “Head of Storytelling” for My Little Pony and Littlest Pet Shop, a position which is described as “helping create expansive worlds and characters”. She’s even credited with writing some Season 6 episodes (2016) and Open Up Your Eyes from the movie (2017). I don’t remember exactly what was said in the emails (I’d deleted them after saving the concept art), but I do remember it being more of a friendly banter than an official tone. Also I just realized I was wrong to assume Boulder Media would be the ones working on a Generation 5 MLP. It would be Hasbro’s in-house animation studio Allspark Animation.
