In my experience, its actually the rabid starlight fans on derpibooru who acts like this, like this picture for example. Calm down, not everyone likes the same characters. No need to feel so personally attacked because someone desagrees with you
@Hollowfox the Stallion
Outside observers of the nerd clique at one’s high school or college won’t particularly realize how much drama FiM indirectly generates. They’ll just see a group of kids who like My Little Pony and Star Wars and Pokémon and Street Fighter. <w<
I wish the drama towards the changes in MLP didn’t happen so MLP would still look successful and popular and joined the ranks of Steven Universe and Star vs. the Forces of Evil.
Speaking as someone who hated Twilicorn and still hates certain interpretations of her (i.e; the ones where she has absolute political power and gleefully wields it like a club to smack around anypony who so much as disagrees with her), I can say that it kinda did end.
I was, eventually, able to forgive her, because the show has repeatedly shown me that abusing her power would be massively out of character for her and, seeing how some ponies treat her in canon, makes me question how much authority she actually has and how far it extends. I’ve seen quite a few fanfics where she is not above the law and has to face the consequences for breaking it. Oh yes, those were some of my favorites.
I now view Twilight as a character that is very easy to screw up in fanworks, but is not inherently an overpowered, physically and politically invincible pseudo-Mary Sue.
@ChuymaruZ
Did you time travel from the past? Of course it did.
Doesn’t mean that you don’t have some morons with permanent anal damage still trying to bring it back up, but who listens to them anyway?
@angrybrony
For me it’s the opposite rock solid friendship actually made me like starlight a bit more especially since she actually called out pinkie pie on how her hyperactive behavior sometimes causes more problems for others something which pinkie pie has never been called out on since all the others brush her off as just being pinkie pie.
This is one way how you lose fans. Stuff like this makes you just as bad as the people you whine about.
Honestly no, it does not. Poking a little fun at the hypocritical ‘tards who get triggered when the show introduces a new character or reforms someone they didn’t want to see reformed, does not make the artist “as bad as” them.
I for one love the new, reformed Starlight Glimmer, I see her as having a lot of potential and most of all, I am happy that with this current season, DHX is actually doing something with her. I could rail against “reformed” Discord and the tendency for the anti-Starlight crowd to defend him when people bring up he did far worse things than evil Starlight, but THAT would in fact make me just as bad as them. So I will refrain.
Also, Flurry Heart is really cute, and the Royal Couple are even more adorable now that they have a kid.
@angrybrony
Same here, while I’ll admit that her design put me off at first (dem wings though…)
I’ve come to see her as one of the most adorable harbingers of death and destruction in fiction. (Kirby is the most adorable harbinger if death and destruction in my book.)
Twilight: Actually I have an idea. HEY BRONIES, DISCORD IS GIVING OUT AUTOGRAPHS OVER THERE! all of the angry bronies run in excitement to the direction where Twilight is pointing
Starlight: How did you know?
Twilight: Years of experience, plus most bronies are suckers for Star Trek.
@PonyPon
Personally I love her and I guess it all depends on what type of crowd we end up walking into, some may have seen a lot of hate while some may see love it all depends.
@clock work eye
Do people really hate Flurry Heart that much?
Beyond the collective gnashing of teeth about a baby and an alicorn that reached it’s peak at her reveal, I’ve seen more people dismiss than outright hate her.
@09MurphyM
I don’t know, the whole flurryheart thing feels like it might stick for a while, the creators of the show took a huge leap when creating flurry, and i get the feeling like a lot of fans probably feel like they are being dragged through the plot rather than enjoying the ride, that and a lot of headcanon just got stabbed up the a hole.
