@Cirrus Light
So you are Think that their technology is at level of Second Industrial Revolution?, well I also think the same. Oh yeah i forget to say this.
First Industrial Revolution Started at 1780s Till the Second Industrial Revolution Started
Second Industrial Revolution Started at 1860s Till WW1 Started (honestly Without World Wars We probably would start the Third Much Earlier and We probably already living in the Fourth Industrial Revolution)
Third Industrial Revolution / Digital Aga Started at 1960s (We are here)
Fourth Industrial Revolution Will Started Around 2020s-2050s
Yeah I can safely said that their level of technology is Around Second Industrial Revolution, While some of their technology such as Arcade Game, and SLR Camera are from the Third Industrial Revolution. So it’s like Second Industrial Revolution with Little Third Industrial Revolution.
@CyanLightning
Their hospital equipment is like 1950s I think? Flim Flam’s steam machine made me think 1910s-ish. Then there’s the build of their weather factory. Also, although on one end they seem to lack internal combustion engines, we also see what looks like those propelling their air ships:
Then there’s the derby racer designs. “Classical” was in old black and white pictures, and Applebloom’s looked - at least it had the aesthetic of a Ferrari Tipo 500 from 1952.
And then there’s the cmcs getting smoothies from Sugarcube Corner, which means refrigeration is fairly common.
Ultimately, all this comes together to make me think 1910s-ish.
Plus, there’s Hayburgers as a reference to Hamburgers, and I don’t think those were really a thing until the twentieth century. Certainly not at fast food joints like that.
Oh, and the bowling alley! That’s 1920s at latest, I think?
Oh, and we see a space suit costume a few times, so they’re at least late enough to start imagining space, that’s also consistent with turn of the century - and in 1910, there was still talk over “Einstein’s new theory of relativity”, and in “It’s About Time” Twilight has special relativistic equations on a chalk board.

“I like to think of Equestria as being somewhere around the 1800s technology-wise”, you know Second Industrial Revolution started at 1860s. Also the thing about a candle, oil lamp, or “firefly” lamp is probably common use in the rural area while in urban area they probably using something like flashlight and light bulb rather than that.
“I like to think that since ponies evolved with magic, they never had a reason to research the potential of electricity when they can already do things like make light”, unless if you are Earth pony or Pegasus. you see it seems like that they still need for electricity. while you can say that something like flashlight, turntable is run on magic. but maybe it’s just the power source that actually magic like for example the flashlight instead of battery with electricity inside it. it’s actually battery with pure magic in it that can be turn into something else like electricity. the reason probably it’s easier for them to charge it, just using unicorn magic or rather can be use longer than conventional electric battery. And look at this.
Trixie can create thunder from her magic. also this is little bother me they have SLR Camera. which is mostly used at Early to Mid Third industrial revolution in our world Untill it replace by DSLR. and hack even fillies and colts have one.
@CyanLightning
My headcannon is that Equestria doesn’t use electricity like we do, and use magical devices in place of electronics. Almost every time we see a light, it’s either a candle, oil lamp, or “firefly” lamp. Things like Vinyl’s turntable and speakers would exist, but actually run on magic and runes, instead of electricity and circuits. But since magic seems to be far more unstable than electricity, they would be extremely expensive to build and maintain, thus making them uncommon.
I like to think that since ponies evolved with magic, they never had a reason to research the potential of electricity when they can already do things like make light, manipulate objects, generate sound, and everything else we’ve seen magic do.
Basically, I like to think of Equestria as being somewhere around the 1800s technology-wise, only with a few analogues for modern devices due to their advent of magic.
Wat?, really?, did i really sound like that?, I thought that i am not sound like that. but nah. Okay i think i am little off there. I just find it harder to read the handwriting than modern Typeface. but usually it’s not a big problem but still require more time to read it than modern typefaces. while i kinda agree that in Equestria they have mass produce and not in medieval age. but I think they are in the Second Industrial Revolution rather than the first one or entering the first. which the time when electricity become mainstream. i mean look at this.
Turntables and Speaker which which is use a lot of electricity.
Hack they even have Arcade game. Which will not be invented until the Third Industrial Revolution or Digital Revolution. Plus we are in the Third Industrial Revolution or Digital Revolution but we will enter the Forth industrial revolution in a decade to few decades.
@CyanLightning
No need to be testy, I wasn’t trying to insult anyone.
Personally, I usually don’t have a problem reading calligraphy, but that’s beside the point. Many manuscripts did in fact use “printed type”.
But if we’re talking about books in the context of Equestria, then I’m sure they have mass-produced books, seeing as they’ve invented the printing press. It’s not like they’re in the medieval age; I’ve always thought of Equestria as just entering an industrial revolution.
@TheRealPonyTheBestPony
You know i am not pointing whether is that a German nor English, i pointing out that it’s hard to read the hand writing compare to the Modern Typefaces.
@TheRealPonyTheBestPony
I think Cyan’s point was that modern typefaces are much easier to read than calligraphy/handwritten manuscripts. The logic behind the point is still sound even though the example document is in German. :)
@Yet_One_More_Idiot
Honestly I like more modern typeface than The author’s own calligraphy. Here the reason.
That’s Albert Einstein own hand writing, and I find it hard to read it. While the modern typeface like Calibri or Segoe UI is much more easier for me for reading.
@HorsesandMuchMOAR
The author’s own calligraphy? So I’m betting Twiley wouldn’t appreciate any of our modern printed books quite as much either, eh?
Does anybody have any illuminated manuscripts lying around? One of the handwritten copies of The Anglo-Saxon Chronicles perhaps? Or an original manuscript of Beowulf on their person?
Twilight: “But I want a real book, not a computer or a Flask disk. Reading will be lifeless without the fragrant smell of ancient pages, or the authentic smudges of the author’s own calligraphy!”
@TheRealPonyTheBestPony
Yeah, there’s no way I could ever top that for sheer quantity, I won’t even try. ;)
I just like to collect the beautifully-made Barnes & Noble leatherbound volumes; not even all of them, just the ones that interest me enough to want to read them. :)
I have two huge library rooms at my house. Unfortunately, can’t provide pictures unless I ask my parents for some because I just moved out to college out of state :p
@Yet_One_More_Idiot
Yours might be expensive and levelled, but when it comes to sheer volume, I’m pretty sure I take the cake. I’ll be rolling in Twi-cuddles <3
We have similar tastes in books. I’ve got most of the ones you showed, only not as pretty and new.
