I think we can see Dragons like the ponies, I mean, Bulk Biceps is nothing like the typical pony model. Same for Mr Cake, Snips and Snail, plus Trouble Shoes. So I like to think as the other dragons from season one as “lesser Dragons.” and these guys as what ever type dragon lol.

Agreed, and ike I mentioned, I luke to think the season one are lesser dragons. On top of that, I’m sure the writers weren’t satisfied with the typical dragon model. Like the baby ponies. Baby Applejack’s birth certificate and Flurry Heart have open eyes, not black dots.

Dragons in MLP tend to be… diverse in forms and shape. Some have horns, some don’t have wings, some have more than four legs, etc. You probably think of Basil/Reginald/migration crowd, which is just recolors of each other for saving budget in early seasons. Dragons in previous pic looks like young adults to me, while teenage dragons from s02 have more scrawny look.

Dragons come in many shapes and sizes. I’m glad to see that here.  
As for this guy, I think it’s the lines that are slightly different from the norm. He does look less out-of-place when animated.
 
I’m still a little taken aback by how high pitched his voice is for a guy that big.

true, but so did G1 Tirek in G1 MLP, but we still loved him. So maybe, we will like this guy to. Also, again, not trying to complain, but its just…we seen the first dragons with the classic dragon look. While these guys (though cool) have a ….How to train your dragon look going on.
