You name all these ways that Spike synergizes with Rarity’s interests, but one has to ask; how much of that is him tailoring himself in an attempt to “fit” with Rarity better? A child in love with someone that isn’t (at least currently) reciprocating could easily try to present themselves and their preferences/traits in a way that they want to seem more attractive to. We don’t see more than a couple minutes of Spike before he met Rarity and he developed his crush, so it’s difficult to say.
 
For example, the first time we see his “protector” side is in A Pony and Dog Show, where he imagined himself to be super masculine and knightly in order to make an impression on imaginary Rarity.
 
If so, that has a pretty good chance of not being too healthy for his psyche over time.

100% agreement about Trenderjack, but I’m not really a fan of Cheesepie; they’re so similar that it seems on the nose to pair them together. Plus, he’s a wanderer and she’s a hometown girl, so that’s one area where friction in a relationship is not welcome.

Applejack and Trenderhoof? Didn’t, you know, she have no interest in him whatsoever and thought he was kind of a patronizing asshat who saw her way of life as a cool accessory?
 
I know the Applejack het ships are few and far between but honestly Trenderjack is a terrible, terrible ship, since the whole point to that episode was that Rarity wanted Trenderhoof, Trenderhoof wanted Applejack, and Applejack wasn’t interested and thought Trenderhoof was annoying.
 
Also, while I could well see Pinkie hooking up with Party Favor if she actually had any contact with him now that he’s free of Equality Village, she had more contact with and more chemistry with Cheese Sandwich. This particular ship feels a little forced, like “I gotta do something original, everyone does Cheesepie, who can I hook Pinkie up with that isn’t Cheese Sandwich?”

Spike’s a kid. If he made moves on Rarity she’d have to say no or else be seen as a pedophile.
 
I don’t like ships between adults where one pines but doesn’t do anything and the other one seems oblivious. In the case of Sparity, however, I feel like Rarity’s hot-and-cold behavior could be explained by being interested, but ashamed that she’s interested because he’s a kid, and wanting subconsciously to keep him around long enough for him to become an adult.
 
I’m also not normally a fan of a person hooking up with the first person they become attracted to, because it feels like your life is somewhat stunted if you never have a chance to have a crush on anyone else… but Spike’s going to live longer than Rarity, so even if he does hook up with her, he’ll have his chance to seek out other partners after she’s dead. And really, given what we’ve seen of what dragons are like, does anyone think Spike could seriously fall in love with one? Maybe once he’s an adult he might find himself lusting after a dragon in heat, but after her heat is over they’ll have nothing in common.
 
Spike and Rarity have mutually complementary attitudes and fantasies. She wants to be swept off her feet by a noble protector; he wants to be a noble protector who can sweep her off her feet. They are both incredibly possessive, but Spike, despite being a dragon and a child, is more mature about his jealousy than Rarity is, which is fitting because someday he’ll be bigger and stronger than her. Spike has a strong interest in looking stylish, which of course fits in with Rarity’s fashion obsession. Both are capable of incredible greed and great generosity. Rarity longs to be a Canterlot noble, and Spike was raised by an upper-class Canterlot family and specifically by Princess Celestia’s personal student. If Spike were a pony it would be obvious that Rarity was waiting for him to grow up because they’d be perfect together outside of the age difference.
 
I’m not really obsessed with the ship or anything – I’m a multi-shipper with my favorite characters, and neither Spike nor Rarity are my favorites, so frankly I don’t care all that much – but I do have to say I like Sparity better than any other Rarity het ship I’ve seen and better than any other Spike/Mane Six ship I’ve seen. I think Rarity works very well with some of the femslash ships and I’m cool with Spike/OC (if it’s a good OC) or some of the Spike slash ships, but if Spike’s gonna hook up with a Mane 6 member I don’t see him working well with any of them but Rarity.

Normally I would agree with you but some us had never seen this artists work and some of us including me couldn’t read the description at the source so it was kinda hard to tell the context at the time sure it’s obvious now but at first with no previous info to go on it’s easy to mistake the meaning, I mean stuff like that does get posted sometimes but now I will remember this artist for future reference.

i dont thin it really matters if you want a ship to be realistic or not, or have a balance of straight and gay. As long as you like the ships you like, and don’t act like a dick to people that ship something different to you, then its ok.

I have the same problem with Celesticord vs. Dislestia and OctaScratch vs. Vinyltavia vs. Scratchtavia.

My OCD tells me I need some sort of balance between straight and gay, even in my ships, and I can’t help injecting realism into them too, despite this being a cartoon of magical talking horses.
 
For example, I do not like it when all six of the Mane Six are lesbians, especially when they’re all shipped with each other. I like Rarijack, I really do, but bringing TwiDash and PinkieShy along for a triple date is just ludicrous.
 
Note to the artist: Kilala97 built an entire next generation of great characters out of straight ships, you should give her art a look.
