And one of the really ironic things about IRS hate? The agency has been so poorly funded by tax-hating politicians that it’s unable to catch cheating and errors effectively, and has to spot-audit only the most egregious cases.
 
They estimate that from current funding levels, every additional dollar spent on the IRS would gain seven dollars of lost, legally owed taxes, for net benefit to the deficit. Eventually that runs into diminishing returns, of course, but for right now, we’re deep into positive-return territory.

I certainly don’t speak on behalf of the IRS, my views and opinion are my own, but there’s a reason my user icon is what it is. Why do you hate the IRS? We just collect the taxes, we don’t charge them. Why anyone hates on the executive branch is beyond me; other than the President, who can issue Executive Orders and set policy, all we do is enforce the law, not set it.

Well, they are responsible for collecting taxes. I don’t think there’s any sane person in the world who sees taxes and goes, “Taxes! YIPPEE!” We all just see them as a necessary evil.
