In my opinion, both have their advantages and problems.
SFM makes consistent animation, most special effects and facial expressions relatively easy, at the cost of making any kind of realistic physics-based motion far too tricky.

GMod on the other hand has a less steep learning curve, on top of having physics that (most of the time) work. Facial stuff is a lot harder though, and you have to get an external program to record anything.
