  • A New Generation was done by Boulder Media in Ireland (specifically, Dublin)
  • Make Your Mark was done by Atomic Cartoons in Canada (specifically, Vancouver, BC)
  • Tell Your Tale is done by Critters Workshop in Malaysia
    And while the head writer for MYM also did writing for ANG, the writing group for TYT is completely different (though the head writer for at least season 1 of the latter also wrote that podcast series that Pipp hosted a while back)

The one time i can recall Filly Sunny not having the highlights is when they show the pic of her and her father from the movie in Tell Your Tale, that is the only instance i can think of where the TYT team did maintained continuity with what the films/Netflix show established

I don’t think so. The photo album shows Sunny having rainbow highlights as a filly before she even entered it. Look at this screenshot: >>3356000
Also it is not “implied” that Sunny is reliving her memories, we know she is. The implication is that Sunny’s highlights are a genetic trait passed down from her mother. Just as G4 implied that Sunburst’s got his bright legs from his mother, and Rainbow Dash got her rainbow hair from her father. I think it’s more likely the devs just reused assets and thought it would be cute if Sunny’s mother also had the rainbow in her hair.
After all, the people working on the YouTube series probably are not the same people who made the movie or the Netflix series. And to my recollection Sunny has always had rainbow highlights in the YouTube series, so that team probably assumed she just always had them. And considering everything G5 gets wrong about G4, I think we can probably also assume G5 lacks a cohesive design document for people to look at.
But I shouldn’t go making too many assumptions.

I don’t think her mother having the rainbow streak is necessarily an indication that Sunny inherited it from her - I mean, just look how different Sunny’s coat color is from her parents. Just chalk it up to magical pastel ponies being bright and colorful.

I guess that makes sense. What doesn’t make sense is to retcon Sunny as always having been a rainbow-head and she got it from her mother. :V
They could have had Sunny’s photos be plain purple-haired, and still used her rainbow-streaked model; which would help us understand that she’s just reliving her memories. Also her mother should not have the rainbow streak, because this means they went out of their way to incorrectly suggest that Sunny’s rainbow highlights were an inherited trait from her mother, and not because she absorbed alicorn magic.

It’s just a simple reuse of assets, honestly - I don’t know why some people are getting so bent out of shape. Really, it’s no different from the various Queen Haven crown errors in TYT.
Yeah i think what happened is that since the first episode TYT did with Filly Sunny was the one where she, Hitch and Izzy turns into Fillies and she still has her Rainbow streak as its meant to be a de-aged version of present day Sunny thus the streaks came with it, so instead of creating a new model with the correct hair, they are simply using the assest they built for that episode.

G5 is just all over the place in terms of continuity. I wouldn’t be surprised if in a future episode Izzy suddenly has her parents or Zipp and Pipp find out they have a father. It’s more of just flavor for the episode of the week than actually trying to make things seem connected. Also the short episode format doesn’t help either as everything is crammed into a 5 minute or less segment. Making things feel forced or rushed. This kind of episode could have been a lot better if they gave it more time. Though I’d imagine in the next episode all this will probably be forgotten.

To be fair, Twilight and Pinkie were the only ponies in G4 with parents in season 1.
Rarity gets her parents in S2.
Applejack has her parents confirmed dead in S3.
Fluttershy gets her parents in S6.
Rainbow Dash gets her parents in S7.
Unless shown or mentioned, families are either alive or not, in a weird Schrödinger’s cat scenario.
