Looks more like lack of communication of any kind.
If you can’t prove a popular lie to be true, it’s easy to even accidentally emotionally hurt you.

Kirby’s Dream Land debuted in 1992. Not the ‘80’s.
And the white Kirby on the American cover was the result of miscommunication between the two branches of the company. The Japanese cover displayed him in his proper pink coloration.
The creator couldn’t decied on makeing him pink or yellow, so he became neutral and made him white
Pfft, that’s really stupid.
Oh and the Mario Land commercial him superimposed on black & white videos, so he two was black & white.
I guess is because they didn’t like pink? I know,stupid reason,but still…
Oh it was sothing with the one ad, look at the Kirby’s Adventure, one()
Did they portray Mario in a white Jumpsuit for Mario Land? I doubt it.
He was pink in the NES game and the Game Boy one was the second one.
Wow, it’s funny how he was portrayed as white. I wonder if that’s just lack of knowledge that he was pink due to the limited colors of the Game Boy or he wasn’t really pink in the 80s.
