Pretty much. You only need to start the planet rotating, and it won’t stop for billion upon billions of years. Also, stopping and starting the planet’s rotation would kill most creatures on the planet each time. Not to mention the disastrous weather. The only thing that makes sense is that Equestria isn’t a planet, but an artificial landmass in space with some type of simulated sky and simulated gravity. Maybe their entire universe is empty, and their little land mass is all that is left, and magic is the only thing providing energy for the “planet”.
 
Anyways, if people want to use science to make the mlp universe make sense, while still being 100% canon, it has to be a different universe with different laws of physics. No exceptions.

I wonder how Twilight will react when she finds out how physics work on Earth…

What’s the point of replacing canon, if it’s ever less make sense? It’s just cheap way to feed their ego: “I know better than canon! Yes, it’s have no role in story, bear no importance in the plot, it’s just a fleeting mention, but it’s showing that I know better!”.

Doesn’t it seem hypocritical to try and dissuade application of science with more science?

In fact, fanfic writers who “fix” canon to be “more realistic” and declare that “Hahaha, Princesses don’t move Sun and Moon, they just rotate planet” don’t even understand that “just rotate planet” is scientifically bullshit, not to mention directly conflict multiple episodes.

My head cannon actually suggests this is true but the presence of magic actually causes various effects that would otherwise usually be associated with increased mass, mostly in the areas of inertia. Equestria has a large amount of magic cycling in it one result is a very sluggish orbit which has to be accelerated for best results.

And there’s Twilight being neurotic as always.

I think Applejack is merely a sophisticated crackpot scientist. Using fancy mathematics doesn’t make you any more right (the sun and the moon are most likely powered by princess magic, as confirmed in S4E26, unlike in this world), just like the many ingenious theories designed to “replace Relativity”.
