@Beau Skunky
Yeah, the FMV sequences were absolutely GORGEOUS! Too bad the in-game cutscenes didn’t look NEARLY as good, with their emotionless character models, poor lipsyncing, and 4Kids voice actors.
@Beau Skunky
I’d love to see a Sonic movie in a similar vein as Sonic ’06. For all of the negativity surrounding the game, I do respect Sega and Sonic Team for trying to do something grand and epic with the Blue Blur. In all honesty, an epic Sonic game would be freaking awesome!
Well, as long as it has great controls, few glitches, and absolutely NO unnecessarily convoluted storylines that boil down to something stupid, like making princesses cry.
@Zennistrad
Actually, it did work considering SatA.M. Sonic is quite dark, and it’s usually considered the best Sonic TV show. Not to mention the comics, and games have their dark/edgy moments to.
As I said, I doubt it’s going to be “Batman” dark honestly, (Sega likely wouldn’t allow that) and be more like “Sonic Adventure 1 & 2” dark.
@MXleo1
It’s not Shadow Dark and Edgy. Even if this real, Sega would be sure to balance that dark feel to Sonic. They learned from their mistakes from Shadow The Hedgehog and Sonic 06. They will probably just hide anything over the top in the dialogue and never actually show it like in Sonic Lost World.
@Beau Skunky
See? This guy gets it. We’re not talking Shadow Dark where it’s “2edgy4me” . We’re talking Sonic Dark where Sonic can go all out on Baldy Mc Nosehair and still act like the smughog we’ve known since 1998.
@Dashu
Well, even “cute” cartoony characters can have dark moments. (Just look at “Adventure Time,” or the Don Bluth movies.)
Sonic’s always had it’s darker/edgy moments, not just it’s silly/lighter ones. (Heck, even the concept of Eggman using cute & cuddly animals to power his robots is kinda dark in a way.) Just look at the old SatA.M. show, the Archie American comics, the British Fleetway comics, and games like the “Sonic Adventure” ones that have dark/edgy moments to. Heck some minor characters in the comics have been killed-off before.
(In fact, the British/Fleetway STC comic series is said to be the darkest Sonic canon.)
A common misconception about the Sonic series is, some fans think it was always “blue skies, and green hills,” and such.
I doubt they’re going to go like “Batman” dark on it, probably just “Sonic Adventure 2” dark. I doubt Sega will allow lots of “pointless murder and gratuitous gore” honestly.
It still amazes me that there are people who look at a blue video game hedgehog and think “yeah, something really dark and edgy, that’s what it needs” and that there are other people, some in high positions, who agree with them, and then stuff like that gets made, without anybody of them noticing that it’s kind of a dumb idea.
Sure, there are also people who look at cartoon ponies and say “yeah, pointless murder and gratuitous gore, that’s what it needs”, but those are just fans, who do their own thing.
@Beau Skunky
I really hope in a not so far future, they, (Nintendo), decided to loosen up, and let another company decide do something for them other media related, (Comicbooks, Animated Series, Etc.,), because, like I said again, I’d do anything for a Mario movie…..
@HeroInferno
Not always true, the comics, and games have had their edgy moments, and pulled them off nicely, and balanced them with the lighter/sillier/comical moments to. I’m sure the movie (assuming there will be one) will have it’s lighter/comical moments to.
Plus Sonic SatA.M. was pretty dark, and it’s usually considered the best Sonic cartoon. (Even by some who don’t play the games.)
On one hand, I really like Sonic and I’m happy he’s getting a proper movie, on the other hand, the last time we got an edgy Sonic, we got Shadow The Hedgehog.
I’m gonna wait until more infos available until I make a proper opinion on this.
@Cucaracha2
At this point, I’d be happy with them just making a new TV show, or comic book series. I heard they actually turned down Archie Comics’ offers to do a mini-series based on Mario, Kirby, and/or Metroid. Which is a shame, because their Megaman & Sonic comic series are pretty good.
@BK_Leonidas
Indeed, as the biggest Mario fan, I have to say the 1993 Movie was awful, and I was just 9 years old when I watched it on TV in 2002, and I was easier to amuse back then, too boot.
If Nintendo ever decides to lighten up, and be more loose on their IP’s, maybe, just maybe, we can get a proper CGI animated Mario Movie.
