@The Smiling Pony
I believe you, TSP. Every pride image that isn’t explicit gets 20+ downvotes because people are very concerned about the quality of the art, and we can’t assume anything if they’re only downvoting every time they see it instead of perusing the tag.
@TexasUberAlles
So, you want us to go and ask every voter why they voted the way they did? Because if you’re saying we should check if people are mass downvoting themes and then act on that… Then I’ve got news for you! We do.
@The Smiling Pony
The “don’t do” part is so obvious it’s highlighted in red between the total score and the number of comments, Boss. That shit inarguably has nothing to do with the image quality, and there is in fact a Rule for that. This is a cute, fun, lighthearted and completely in-character image that ain’t hurtin’ anyone, getting its score intentionally and maliciously dragged down below a lot of users’ LTE: filters by the scum of the fandom.
Of course the real problem, as always, is “me saying mean things about ignorant bigoted assholes” and not “the ignorant bigoted assholes”. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@TexasUberAlles
Sure would be nice if you stopped pretending you knew one iota about what mods do or don’t do, but god forbid you not be compelled act like a smarmy asshole to everyone around for a full day.
@Background Pony #1812
The number of local shitheads around here has dropped dramatically over the years, but the ones who still hang around missing the entire goddamn point of the series are such shitheads that they occasionally call in brigades of cranio-rectally-inverted fellow travelers from other sites to mass downvote anything that reminds them their shiteadery continues to very much be the tiny minority opinion.
Sure would be nice if the mods ever bothered to Rule 6 any of this shit.
@ARandomByStander
Those people can eat sand and mind their own fucking business, not sure why anyone should cater to them and back over backwards to hide who they are over their “concerns” (ie. hatred).
Maybe you should expend time reaching out to them instead of criticizing normal people just being normal.
I would say the whole agenda of people against LGBT is that they think something is wrong with your mental state and they want to “help”.
So I think the best way to prove you don’t need “help” is to live your life normally like everyone else since it’s not their business who someone is attracted to anyway.
I personally just assume everyone is bisexual.
@ARandomByStander
As long as there are people telling that pride isn’t necessary, as long we NEED pride. There are still bunch of countries, even more progressive ones, that still have law or mentality that discriminate queer people, not talking that in some countries for being in gay relationship you might get killed.
People have the right to celebrate whatever they want - their ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexuality, religion or any other form of identity, as long as we all stay respectful towards each other.
@ARandomByStander
“Straight pride” is every single day of the year (and particularly Valentine’s day). Practically all media and politics caters directly (and often exclusively) to “straight pride”.
Saying that people in the LGBT “sphere” shouldn’t wear pins or wave flags or whatever is on the level of saying no one in the US should have an American flag pin on their jacket or celebrate July 4th. It’s just absurd.
It also completely obviates how until extremely recently even being suspected of being gay was grounds for being ostracized (at best), or just outright lynched. There’s very very clear reason to be proud that things have improved, and also to reflect that there are vast parts of the planet where they haven’t yet.
@ARandomByStander
The entire agenda of those who hate LGBT people is “hide who you are from the world or we’ll hurt you.” Pride exists to defy and defeat that attitude. So no, we are not going to hide anymore.
This is also why there is no “straight pride,” because no one has ever forced straight people to hide themselves on a societal scale.
And actually, sociological studies and historical data show that publicly celebrating something is one of the most effective ways of normalizing it.
Then where is the straight sexually pride if they are all celebrated? Because by excluding them you are making them different.
Yeah there’s still a bunch of people hating on people who are not straight but like with racism it’s gonna take time for those who hate to die off.
Unlike skin color there’s no visible identifier for those haters to direct their hate unless they mark themselves to be hated (by wearing rainbow things).
Celebrating something different that should just be considered normal is counter-productive to making it normal.
That’s a pretty absurd thing to say; there are countless celebrations for things considered “normal”, like religious holidays, birthdays, success at work, the anniversary of an event, long etc. Celebrating something is just celebrating it.
Being allowed to celebrate something different without being criticized or attacked over it would be a fair metric of what’s “normal” but it takes one second to look at the news (or social media) to see that people are still furious that “the gays” are allowed to exist in public; clearly many in our society do not believe this particular “something different” should be normal, or even tolerated.
